I hop off the scooter and turn to thank Georgia, only to see a look on her face that worries me. Dollars to donuts, she’s thinking about Sebastian and she’s freaking out.

“Hey,” I say, touching her hand. “You okay?”

“I’m fine.” A grim smile. “I’m just worried that Piper might be right.”

I glance over my shoulder in time to see a shadow moving across one of the windows, and I know Wes is about to open the door. “Take it from someone who knows,” I tell her. “Men like Sebastian—like Wes—they’re more sensitive than we give them credit for. That overbearing macho act is just hiding what they’re afraid to admit. Remember: he came back to Heart’s Cove for you.”

“That’s kind of what worries me the most.”

The front door opens, and my husband looms in the doorway. A little thrill passes through me, because I know he’s annoyed. I do enjoy calming him down when he’s like this.

Turning back to Georgia, I give her an awkward hug around her bulky helmet. “You’ll figure it out. You’re a successful, rich boss-lady who knows how to get what she wants. You just need to decide exactly what that is.”

A small sigh, and Georgia finally smiles. “Thanks, Simone.”

“Anytime. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to stroke my husband’s, um, ego.”

Georgia snorts, then waves at the two of us and zooms off.

Wes crosses his arms, a brow arched. I saunter up the pathway toward him and climb the steps onto the front porch. He glowers.

Instead of antagonizing him, I decide to be diplomatic. “Four hundred candles was excessive. I understand that.”

“We have a closet full of candles already, Simone.”

“I know. I’ll give most of these away, I promise. We’ll…we’ll throw a party and give them away as party favors!”

I’m a genius. Sometimes I even impress myself.

He drops his arms, and I can tell by the look on his face that he’s struggling between anger and laughter. Finally, he pounces. I squeal as I find myself thrown over his shoulder and carried across the threshold.

I slap his buns like a pair of very firm bongos. “Put me down!”

“Not a chance.”

“They’re only candles, Wes. You can’t be that mad.”

“I’m not mad. I married you, didn’t I? This is what I signed up for.”

“Hey! That’s offensive. What did my candles ever do to you?”

He growls. “Forget about the candles.”

“So where are you taking me?” I ask, already knowing the answer.

Wes confirms my suspicions: “To bed, Simone. I’m taking you to bed.”

GEORGIA

If I’d triedto stay away from Sebastian, it would have been a complete failure. He blows through my life like a hurricane, whipping me up into the air and carrying me along with him. As the days pass, I let myself be swept away and damn the consequences.

It feels too good to be in his arms.

We see each other every day at my gallery, sneaking away to his house every chance we get. I sleep at my place because I want to spend time with my sister and nephews, but I still miss him when night falls. He must feel the same, because most evenings, my phone rings and his name lights up the screen.

Let me just say: having a hot, dominant man with a sexy Texas drawl promise dirty things to me in the dead of night is a kink I didn’t know I had. I look forward to those phone calls almost as much as I do our sneaky lunchtime quickies. I’m the match to his flame, burning hot and bright whenever we come together. Between him and the exhilaration of the gallery’s renovations, I feel like my life has been injected with new meaning.
