She took a breath before walking out of the room, and put on her necklace.

Have courage. Take heart.

She pictured what it had been like when she’d done the same in Paris. When she’d seen him standing there in his suit.

It made her smile. That this wasn’t the first time. That they were them. And this was something they did.

She walked into the living area, but he wasn’t there.

She turned a circle. “Cameron.”

He did not answer.

“Cameron!”

He didn’t answer.

So she walked right for the door of his bedroom, and without knocking, she opened it.

He had been standing bent over the desk, gripping the edge. Wearing nothing but a pair of dark trousers, his torso bare.

He stood, straightening, his dark hair loose around his shoulders, his blue eyes intense.

His body...

He had scars. His body had not been spared them. But his muscles were... Glorious.

Her mouth dried.

He was perfection.

The scars only enhanced it.

He was like a thing honed from rock. A mountain.

He was power and glory. And while he made her mouth dry, he made that place between her thighs wet.

She barely held back the gasp of pleasure that rose in her throat, but the sound was enough to shake him from his thoughts.

“What?” he asked. It was a growl more than a question, but she was used to that with him.

“We have to go,” she said.

She took a step toward him, and he took a step back.

He had the look of a predator, assessing the situation. Knowing that there were only two options. To flee or to inflict lethal damage.

“I am just finishing getting ready.”

His jacket and shirt were on the back of his chair, a tie draped over the top of them. He had upended a chair, she could see. He was...not well.

“Can you admit to me that you’re having difficulty with this?”

“It is... I did this many times before. Before the accident. Before I looked... I did this many times before. Many of the people in the room will be people who knew me then. It is... I cannot stand pity. I cannot.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m aman. I am not a brokenthing.”
