“You were told about Alex?”
“Yes. I am very sorry to hear that.”
“Me too. He was a difficult child. A selfish man. But he would’ve changed. Given enough time. I will never think it was fair that he lost the ability to try.”
“You met and married Morgan around that time.”
He laughed. “Morgan was... She was Alex’s fiancée. It’s a long story.”
“We have all the time in the world.”
It was only later the next morning that Athena got the text from Apollo. She did not know how he had gotten her information.
“I wanted to give you Cameron’s information. So you can reach him. This is the access to his intercom system. So that you can speak to him at the castle.”
He gave her instructions to download an app, and a code to enter to talk to him.
Her mouth went dry.
She knew that Cameron had meant to leave her here.
But he was her husband. And she did not wish to leave him.
She had what she’d set out to get. A place. And she felt like she had one here, truly. The Kamaras family had already shown her more love in this short space of time than the people she’d known as her family ever had.
But she still wanted.
She still wantedhim.
She had told herself over and over it wasn’t real, and yet she knew now that it was. Because when put back into the life she’d been stolen from, she still wanted him.
Still felt married to him.
She entered the information quickly, and she thanked Apollo, who didn’t respond. And then she opened the app, and pressed the button.
“I’m fine, not that you asked.”
Hearing his voice made her heart leap.
“It is evening here. And how did you get this information?”
“I think you can guess.”
“Be with your family, Athena.”
“Iamwith my family. And don’t speak to me if you don’t wish, but I’m going to share with you.”
And she did. She told him about her family. About Constantine, about his wife. All the stories that she heard about her brother Alex.
She talked to Cameron every day.
He did not all always talk back, but she decided she didn’t need him to.
She was not willing to break her connection with Cameron.
She was home for Christmas, and still she spoke to Cameron every day. She got to know her niece and nephew, her sister-in-law, who was a lovely woman with a brilliant smile.
She reconnected with Rose—Ismena. She went and visited her and Ares at his villa in Greece. And then went with her family after that on a vacation on Constantine’s private island.
