She grins at me. “Thank god. I hated keeping that part of my life from you.”

I nudge Fielder with my shoe. “Scoot over so Merritt can sit with me.”

Merritt shakes her head. “Oh no, I don’t want…”

But Fielder’s already moving and I’m tugging her down next to me, keeping hold of her hand. She glances around the auditorium and lets out a little huff of laughter. “This is supremely weird.”

I lean into her. “You’re telling me.” I’m still not comfortable with my sudden change of social status and I’d had nearly a week to come to grips with spending time with these boys. She’s had all of three minutes.

“Here.” Ezra hands me a stack of paper. I scan my class list. It’s basically the same as what I had before, but two of my classes have been switched. I lean over to Gideon and look at his schedule. “We aren’t in the same chemistry class anymore?”

“What?” His eyes make the same connection that mine did, and he leans forward to scowl at Ezra. “Why isn’t Ro in my chemistry class?”

Ezra lifts a shoulder. “I tried, but the waiting list was already super long for Professor Masters. You know how he is. He refuses to listen to reason.” I arch my brow at Ezra. I was under the impression that they could make pretty much anyone at this school do anything they wanted. Asking a professor to let me into a class seems relatively tame compared to some of the other things they’ve pulled off.

“That’s fucking bullshit.” Gideon grumbles.

I huff out a sigh and squeeze his knee, making him go still. “I guess I’ll just have to struggle through with a new lab partner. Dammit.”

Gideon and I had worked together so well, like we were attuned to each other’s actions before they even happened. Even when we didn’t particularly like each other.

I see that my fourth period class, where Spanish used to be, is now a free period. “What’s this?”

“That’s time forindependentstudy.”

The way that Gideon stresses the word Independent makes me think he means something witchy. So now I have an hour each day to study witchcraft and spells. A quick glance at his schedule shows that he also has a free period then. I think back to how all four of them would come to Professor Masters’s class fourth period, the smallest class, joined by just a handful of other students. Such a bizarrely small class that I’d always been confused by.

“Professor Masters…?” I trail off, not entirely sure how to ask if my chemistry teacher is also a witch. But Gideon seems to understand and nods. “Huh. Well, okay then.”

I scan through the rest of the papers in the stack. It’s all fairly standard, similar to the packets in fall and winter quarter. But I pause on the last page. My room assignment. I frown at the words. This can’t be right. I’m about to lean over to ask Ezra about it, but I’m cut off by a pair of long legs in a too short skirt, stopping in front of me and Merritt.

“Get up, trash, you’re in my seat.”

My eyes travel up to Morgan’s angry face. The hate in her eyes is a living, breathing thing and I struggle not to shrink away from her. If Merritt isn’t cowering before her, then I can manage to keep my back straight, too.

I raise my chin. “I’m not moving. They invited me to sit here.”

She leans down, trying to intimidate me. “You really don’t want to fuck with me, slut. I will end you.”

“You mean like you tried with your little siphoning spell?” I hiss at her. She draws back in surprise. Morgan definitely hadn’t expected me to know that she’s a witch and that she’d spent a good portion of the last six months torturing me with magic. Including trying to siphon off my life force. That spell had left me sick for three days and I’d only survived because of the men sitting on either side of me.

Morgan turns her glare on them now. “You told her? How could you?”

Fielder watches her with a totally impassive look on his face. “She’s one of us, Morgan. You’re going to have to get used to seeing her.”

She splutters out something that sounds like a cross betweenwhatandbullshitso it comes out as “whashit?”

I grin up at her. “That’s right, I’ll be at all the family gatherings now.” I have no intention of going to any of the coven gatherings. But she doesn’t need to know that.

Also, do they actually have coven gatherings? They must, right?

I delight in the way she stumbles back a step; her face a mask of shock. “You can’t be.” It only takes a moment for her to regain her composure, her face smooths out of any emotion. “You aren’t one of us, and you never will be. I will do everything in my power to make sure of it.”

The boys around me, who had been entirely relaxed, all stiffened. Hardin tsks from beside Gideon. “That sounds suspiciously like you’re threatening our girl, Morgan.”

Ezra leans forward. “We know you wouldn’t do anything so foolish though, so we’re going to give you a second chance to welcome Ro with open arms to Seven Stars.”

Morgan looks at them in disbelief. “Are you fucking kidding me? You think you can just throw your weight around? You don’t control the coven.”
