“Ditto,” Ben chimes in, while Merrit blushes to high heaven and elbows him in his side.

“Keep your eyes to yourself, asshole,” Gideon growls, taking one menacing step toward Ben, who just laughs. and drapes an arm over my best friend’s shoulders.

“What, Brightwater? Your girl is hot, but I’d only be looking at mine.”

He twists his head to look at Merritt, who blushes even deeper and tips over to give him a kiss that I kind of think we shouldn’t be here for. Time for us to go.

“Ugh, now I can’t stop imagining my cousin in her underwear and I need to go bleach my brain,” Ezra grouses, drawing a laugh from me as I finally locate my bag and pull it over my shoulder.

“Come on, Ez. Let’s go eat some breakfast and maybe we can do something about that image.” As I pass by him, he drops his arm over my shoulder, tugging me into his chest to press a kiss to the side of my head.

“You mean by you and me having a panty party? Cause I’m pretty sure that will work.”

The back of my hand smacks his abs as he guides me out into the hall and to the elevator. “Who has the sixth room up here?” I ask to change the subject from panty parties that I shouldn’t even be considering having with them. Six doors line the hall and I know each of the guys has their own room, and then I share the fifth with Merritt.

“Its empty,” Fielder answers, hitting the button for the elevator.

“Empty?”

Gideon grins down at me. “You didn’t think that we were going to let some random asshole live on the same floor as you, did you?”

I kind of had assumed that yes. “That means you kicked two people out of their very plush apartments?”

“Dorm rooms,” Ezra corrects. “We have apartments because of ourextraabilities. The last room is still just a studio apartment.”

“Hmm,” I think about my room in Goodwin, about how it was pretty much a studio apartment. With room for a bed, desk and chair, and I had my own toilet and sink. But I needed to use the communal showers. I wince thinking about that, about whoever they kicked out, needing to do that now.

“Poor bastards,” I mutter, shaking my head.

“One of those poor bastards was Gabe,” Fielder comments matter-of-factly. Making me look at him sharply.

“Okay, I take it back.” I can’t hide the shiver that works its way over me. I briefly wonder if it’ll always be my reaction to him, to his name, to the memory of his hands on me. Will I ever be able to hear ‘Gabe Verver’ and not shudder in terror?

Probably not. Not while I’m here. Not while I’m tangled up in this mess of a coven. Maybe years from now, if I haven’t had to deal with his particular brand of bullshit in a while, I will.

Lost in my thoughts, I hardly notice that we’ve made it outside and rather than leading me toward Putnam and the cafeteria, they’re guiding me toward the parking lot closest to the boys’ dorm. “I thought we were grabbing food?”

Gidone smooths a hand down my spine, leaving his hand on my lower back. “We are. Just going to the diner in town instead of the dining hall, sweetheart.”

“You gonna make me choose who to ride with?”

Hardin chuckles, and Ezra tips over to press another kiss to my temple. “You really didn’t like that, did you, Sweeney?”

I lift a shoulder. “I didn’t. It felt like a test that I knew I would fail. A kobayashi maru.”

Ezra tenses next to me, and Hardin laughs. “I think Ez just came in his pants. You can’t go around spouting shit aboutStar Trekaround him, love. It’s one of his turn-ons.”

Ezra draws himself up and glares. “Shut the fuck up. You just don’t find many girls who are into Star Trek.”

I lift my brows. “I don’t know who you’ve been hanging out with, Ezra, but plenty of girls are intoStar Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, all of that nerdy stuff. Maybe not the pretty princesses at this school.”

“And yet you haven’t watched Game of Thrones.” Hardin is really stuck on this.

I open my mouth to respond, but the sound of my name being called draws all of our attention. We’re almost to the parking lot now, standing just on the edge of it. We all stop and look toward campus. “Miss Sweeney!”

I turn toward the voice I recognize and watch as Cohen comes hurrying toward us, not quite running, but close. “It’s back to Miss Sweeney now, is it?” I ask as he comes to a stop in front of us, giving him a smile.

The guys all tense, drawing up like they’re expecting a fight. Actually, Cohen looks like he’s expecting one too. I frown. “Everything okay?”
