She pulled away, gripping my arms, noticing the flask in my hand. Then she winked before walking away. She could tell how nervous I was.

I started pacing, the anxiety increasing. As Rick got a call, I almost snarled for no reason.

“Hey, I gotta take this, man. I’ll be right back. Business never stops,” he said.

“Just be ready. We’re out of here in less than ten minutes after Sarah gets here.”

“Stop worrying.”

As if I could.

Another five minutes passed.

I glanced at my watch.

Another five minutes and I was finished waiting.

“Where the fuck is she?” I snarled, mostly to myself. I was standing in a church, although it wasn’t the one we were to be married in. However, it still made me uncomfortable. I hadn’t wanted to let Sarah out of my sight. The fact she’d convinced me to allow her to spend a couple of hours with her sister was a normal request.

However, our lives were anything but normal.

And where the hell had Bruno gone? I took one more swig and shoved the flask into my jacket. I needed to keep a clear head.

“She’ll be here. Stop worrying,” Maria told me.

“They’re late,” I shot back, shaking my head after doing so.

“By five minutes.”

“No, something is wrong.” I pulled out my phone, dialing Dillon’s number. When it rang four times, I knew my instincts were right. I immediately headed for Bruno, drawing his attention. While I didn’t want to panic, my gut had been telling me all day this was a bad idea. “Why aren’t they answering?” I asked my soldier. When he didn’t respond, everything seemed to spiral out of control. I slammed my hands against him, shoving him outside.

“What the hell are you doing?” my father demanded as he followed me, several of my soldiers doing so as well.

When I tossed Bruno against the side of the building, he grinned. Without hesitation, I shoved the barrel of my weapon against his temple.

“You can’t do this,” Theodora yelled. “It’s a church.”

“Get back inside!” I snapped, returning my attention to a man I thought I could trust. “Where is she? What have you done with her?” Every soldier had their weapons pointed at Bruno. How in the fuck had I missed he’d been the real traitor? I searched my memory, realizing he’d been placed perfectly to provide both business as well as personal information.

“What’s going on?” Theodora demanded as she bounded outside.

“Get them inside! Now!” I snapped, two of my soldiers immediately moving in front of my sisters.

“I’ve done nothing, except supply you with a libation,” Bruno said, laughing even in the face of death.

The flask. Fuck. Fuck.

“Get back inside, Theodora. Pops. It’s the end game.”

My father yanked out his weapon, helping her everyone else inside.

“Now, you have three seconds to tell me where she is or you’re going to face your maker,” I growled. Whatever the poison in the liquor, I knew it would begin to show at any time. I had to get to her. Where the hell had they taken her? What the fuck was going on?

“No can do, boss. Oh, wait. You’re not my boss any longer. You’ll be happy to know she will be taken well care of.”

What the hell was he talking about?

“And there will be a wedding, only you weren’t invited.” As Bruno laughed, a strange feeling settled into the pit of my stomach.
