The other girls’ gazes jerked to me, and I felt my face reddening.
They couldn’t use my full name against me since I hadn’t given it to them myself, if Calian was to be believed. But still, having it spoken aloud made me feel sort of… naked.
Vulnerable.
My defenses rose, and I stared at the basilisk man because suddenly, he was the safest target for my eyes.
Fuck Calian.
Fuck everyone.
I could do it; I could ignore him for five fucking years for the sake of getting away from the bastard.
He had lied to me and claimed me like I was a fucking loaf of bread, and fucking touched me.
The bastard deserved to be ignored for five fucking years, and then abandoned. He could try his luck with some other poor human chick.
I was not hisanything.
“Shall we?” the basilisk drawled to Ana, holding out his elbow.
“I’m not fucking touching you,” she growled back, shoving her knife at him. He took a smooth step backward and she filled the space he left, using it to slide past him.
Damn, I kind of wanted to be Ana.
Angry, kick-ass, and confident?

“Ladies.” The basilisk guy nodded at us. “I’ll see you soon.”
His gaze lingered on me before he turned around.
Shit, I hated how his eyes felt on me.
I definitely did not want to see him soon.
But if I wanted to get away from the seelie, I would have to.
Fuck it, why couldn’t there be an easy, good alternative? Maybe a magical castle where I could be single and alone, with my own space, food, and clothing, for the rest of my life?
Despite Ana’s warning, the girl who replaced her in the doorway didn’t have a weapon in her hand.
“I request entrance,” Calian said smoothly, after Ana and the basilisk guy were gone.
“Fuck off.” The girl in the doorway shut the thick stone slab in his face, hard.
I almost felt bad for the guy.

All of thegirls were looking at me when they turned away from the door.
“January, huh?” one of them asked.
My cheeks flushed a bit. “Didn’t give myself that name, if that’s what you’re asking.”
