“You made the five-year rule, not us,” Calian replied.

“And you know we couldn’t have taken them any sooner,” the growly guy countered.

The blond hellhound dude grinned. “Careful, Rien. Your hound is showing.”

“Wouldn’t want to let anyone see the beast you hide away so carefully,” Lian agreed, that infuriating smirk so evident in his voice.

“Enough playing,Calian.” The man who spoke emphasized my dragon’s full name, something the other men must not have known until Calian gave it to me, if I understood the name-secrecy properly. If he had known it, I assumed Lian would’ve been snarling at him or trying to kill him or something. “Aren’t you going to introduce us to your little phoenix?”

Being called his little phoenix was fucking insulting, but I held my tongue and settled on glaring back at the man.

“My mate, you mean?” Lian squeezed my hip playfully. “Don’t tell me you’re jealous, brother. It’s been far too long since any of our people found a compatible human—and it’s pretty apparent none have been as lucky as I am.”

Fucking hell.

The bastard was going to flaunt the fact that we’d had sex, wasn’t he?

The man’s eyes burned into him. “I felt the shift in Vevol when your bond solidified. That didn’t happen with the rest of us, so what did you do?”

“He fucked his mate.” The blond hellhound guy smirked. “Apparently, our bodies are meant to intertwine with a female’s.”

Fucking hell.

I was going to kill all of them.

The Wild Hunt was going to fucking die.

End of the fucking discussion.

“She’s glaring at you like you’ve spilled her gender’s most closely-kept secret,” one of the unseelie bastards remarked. His gaze flicked to me. “The other females will hate you, I’m sure.”

The question was a taunt, but it was utter bullshit.

“Sex isn’t a fucking secret. If you’ve got twenty women here and none of them have ever tried to fuck one of you, it’s because you’re ugly bastards. Your fault, not mine.” I flashed him one of his awful smirks.

The man was just as gorgeous as the rest of them, but they didn’t need to know that.

“Looks like Vevol made a wise match. A fire-tongued she-devil to go with the Savage King.” The hellhound who I was pretty sure had been called Rien glared at us.

“And nothing but loneliness for the cold, unseelie council,” our hellhound replied.

I wasn’t sure when I’d started thinking of myself as one of the seelie, but it was too late to change my mind. I was one of them—whether I liked it or not.

“You can smell that our scents have merged. Whether or not the female could’ve been anyone else’s, she belongs to me. Take that news back to your king and his icy mate.” Lian’s fingers pressed lightly into my skin, and I understood the silent push.

We were moving, right then.

I turned as he guided me, walking in front of him and not saying a damn thing when he blocked my ass from their sight with his ginormous body.

“You know this could be the start of a war between us,” one of the men called from behind me and Calian. “Your people can’t support this. You’re too wild—and too reckless.”

“Bring us the fucking war, and you’ll see just how wild and reckless we can be,” Calian’s phoenix friend said.

I felt more than heard the seelie hound and phoenix following us out of the building.

“Are they really going to start a war over us getting accidentally mated?” I whispered to Calian, when we were far enough from them that I knew they wouldn’t hear me.

“Probably not. But if they do, our people will fight, and we will win. The one thing we all agree on is the freedom we deserve,” the dragon told me. “Shift, Precious.”
