“We should get a fucking veto, at least,” North snarled.

Mare cut in. “No. Whichever name you draw, you get. If there’s no choice involved for some of us, there’s no choice involved for any of us. Otherwise, it’s not fair for us or the men.”

It took a moment, but finally, nods went around the room.

I didn’t say a word, because I wasn’t really involved in it. I’d already found my mate; neither of us was about to get roped into a fake mating.

“Fine.” North gritted the word out. “January sets it up, so there’s no bias.”

I was actually kind of flattered that she trusted me enough not to be biased in favor of the other women.

Another round of nods circled the room.

“Here.” Mare went over to one of the bookshelves and pulled out a few sheets of paper and a marker. I tugged Calian to the kitchen with me, taking the stuff too.

“Are the guys drawing the girls’ names, or girls drawing guys?” I checked, as I tore the paper into four pieces.

“Girls are drawing.” Sunny didn’t hesitate.

The others agreed, so that was that.

Calian retrieved a bowl for me, and when North growled at him that he wasn’t allowed to be involved, he stepped around to the other side of the counter and waited with the other guys. He didn’t seem offended by her growl—only amused.

The whole fucking thing seemed to amuse him though, and I had to admit I felt a little of the same. If I were in the other ladies’ position, I wouldn’t have found it funny though, so I kept my humor on the down-low.

Writing out the men’s names only took a minute, and then I folded each of them twice and put them in a bowl.

“Who’s first?” I checked, shaking it up and stirring the papers around with my hand.

“This is a really fucked-up Secret Santa game,” Sunny muttered.

“Me.” North held her hand out.

“No one opens them until we all have one,” Mare warned, as I carried the bowl over to North.

She glared into the bowl, studying the papers before finally grabbing one and stepping back.

The other girls didn’t care about the order, so I went to Mare, Sunny, and then Dots.

The air in the room was so fucking thick it was hard to breathe.

Without a vocal instruction, they all opened them at once, staring down at the papers.

Not gonna lie, my heart was beating pretty damn hard. Mostly out of excitement. Also, because I was nervous for all of them.

North crumpled her paper and dropped it on the ground before turning and storming back into her room.

The door slammed so hard the damn thing rocked.

“Ervo,” Mare said, biting her lip as she lifted her paper so we could see the names.

“Nev,” Dots said, lifting hers too.

“Teris.” Sunny followed suit.

Which left North with Priel.

…Who was currently grinning like a fucking demon, of course.
