“So, I have news,” she said. “I didn’t tell you guys everything about sex.”
I narrowed my eyes at her.
What else could there be? We couldn’t keep our hands off of each other most of the time, and she sure as fuck enjoyed it at least as much as I did. I made sure of that every time, and prided myself in doing so.
“I didn’t think it mattered, because none of us are human, but on Earth, if you have sex, it can lead to pregnancy.”
There was a long pause.
She had me with that one.
“Women can grow babies, on Earth. Small people. They grow into bigger ones. I’m sure you’ve seen baby animals, on Vevol?” She looked at me, her face pinker than usual.
Was she embarrassed, or nervous?
I pulled her closer.
The other men nodded, and I realized she was waiting for confirmation, so I nodded too.
“I haven’t had cycles since I’ve been here, so I didn’t think it was possible, but…” She bit her lip again.
“Out with it,” I growled at her.
She sighed. “I’m pretty sure I’m pregnant.”
There was a long, heavy pause.
“Growing a baby?” I finally asked.
She dipped her head in a nod. “I won’t know for sure for a few months, if I start showing, but other than not having a period, I have all the other symptoms. Exhaustion, bloating, excessive hunger… You’re staring at me weird. Why are you staring at me weird?”
“This baby… it’s Lian’s?” Ervo asked.
She snorted. “Yes, definitely.”
“And it’s growing in your…” I trailed off.
“Uterus. Down here, below my stomach.” She tapped her lower belly.
I sank to my knees in front of her, shock coursing through my veins.
My hands found her hips, and I leaned in toward her belly.
“Congratulations,” one of the men said. “It’s time we take our leave.”
The other men agreed, and the forest grew silent as they left.
I was still staring at her lower belly, inhaling her changed scent. When I lifted my gaze, I found her eyes watering as she looked down at me. “You’re excited?” she whispered.
“There are no words to describe my emotions.” I leaned in, pressing my forehead to her abdomen. Her hands tangled in my hair.
“I was worried you’d hate me,” she admitted.
My gaze lifted to hers, and then I stood smoothly, taking her in my arms and capturing her lips in mine for a long, thorough kiss. When I pulled away, I growled softly, “There’s nothing in this world or the next that could make me hate you, and you know it.”
Her cheeks reddened again. “Yeah.” She bit her lip again, and after a long moment, admitted, “I love you, Calian. At first, I was terrified about the baby, but now… now, I’m so fucking excited I can’t even explain it.”
