“It was Kinsley, wasn’t it?”
I bobbed my head yes. “Yeah. I figured that out fast when she and her goons tried to kill me.”
“They’ll pay for this.”
The promise in his voice had me skeptically raising my brows at him.
“Since when do you care?”
“I don’t,” he growled, though the lie was written clearly in his eyes despite how much he fought to hide it.
Hedidcare.
But why?...
“What did you want from me the other day?” he randomly asked, the question startling me. “What did you need my help with?”
My eyes widened. I swallowed, hesitating to answer. “It doesn’t matter.”
“What. Did. You. Want?” he viciously growled.
“Help finding my father.”
He nodded to that, his jaw ticking. “What’s his name?”
I blinked, my eyes widening more. “Campbell. Nicholas Campbell.”
He nodded again, pausing for a long moment.
“I wanted you gone, Samara.”
My head swam even more with confusion as he glared at me long and hard, grinding his teeth.
“But I didn’t want you dead.”
“What?”
What the fuck was his deal? Why was he acting so weird all of a sudden?
“What did Kinsley say to you?”
I didn’t speak. He approached me, bending over me on the makeshift bed and getting right in my face, his lips a breath or two away from mine. “What. Did. She. Say?”
I swallowed hard, averting my gaze away from his mouth.
Then in a move I never anticipated he’d make, he grabbed my face, turning it so I was staring directly into his eyes.
“Don’t make me ask you again.”
“She said it was all my fault,” I gasped out, forcing back a sensible moan as he moved closer to me, gripping my face harder. “That I was the reason Isaac dumped her. That he couldn’t have me if I was dead.”
“Did something happen between you and Isaac?”
I froze, unable to answer.
“Fucking tell me!” He squeezed my face even harder.
“Y-yes,” I rasped against his hold, licking my lips as I met his brooding glare. “He kissed me. He-He finger-fucked me in the courtyard.”
