Did she just fucking say he tried to…

“Samara,” Brian’s flustered voice cut in through the thought. “Don’t be that way. Come on, let’s just sit down and—”

I busted through the door then, making both of them jump back, facing me.

“Isaac?!” Samara disbelievingly scoffed, her distressed blues wide. “What the hell are you—”

“Get. Out.”

I kept my dark, derisive glare locked on Brian who gawked wildly at me, his jaw thrumming.

“Piss off, Danvers, this doesn’t concern you, and we’re not done talking.”

“Yes, you are,” I growled, cutting Samara off as she made to speak for herself. She recoiled back towards the couch as I advanced closer to Brian, coming nose to nose with him. “Get thefuckout before I throw you out.”

He didn’t balk right away. Instead, he just stood there, scowling at me with his chest puffed out. Brian didn’t stand a chance against me and knew it. I outranked him in height, weight, and muscle mass.

Squashing his ass would be just as easy as stomping on a roach.

“Fine, I’ll go.”

Brian’s raging eyes slid away from me to focus on Samara, who feverishly eyeballed between us, her fists curled, shaking. Brian didn’t dare speak as he studied her.

Then again, he didn’t have to.

It was the feral shift in his eye when he made to take his leave that said it all.

Chapter 42

Samara

Ididn’thavethestrength to deal with anymore shit tonight. In just a matter of days my life had gone from bad to worse, and now, it was a total fucking catastrophe.

It took me almost an hour running through those woods before I made it back to the academy. I showered off, then finally, when I thought I’d have some time to calm down so I could figure all this shit out, Brian showed up reeking of fucking booze.

He was angry, demanding to know why I blew him off tonight. Then he started spouting a bunch of inappropriate bullshit about how lonely he’d been since Sky took off, and how he hoped I’d keep him company and take his mind off of things. Instead of being a total bitch and telling him to fuck off, I tried to be kind by offering to help sober him up. Brian had obviously mistaken my offer as an invitation for something else because the next thing I knew, he was in my face trying to shove his tongue down my fucking throat.

And now that Brian was gone, I had to deal with Isaac fucking Danvers. Him popping up out the blue was nothing more than another topping to add onto this huge cake of bullshit inconveniences.

A growl tore from my throat as Isaac shut and locked the door behind him. When he turned to face me, I was already there, shoving indignantly at his chest.

“What the fuck is it with you assholes?” I sneered, my chest heaving. “Why can’t you just leave me the fuck alone!?”

My muscles twitched, constricting tighter under my skin the more I glowered up at him. When he didn’t speak, I shoved him again.

Not that it did me any good. He might not have been as big as Phantom, but Isaac’s whole torso was impressively denser than a brick wall.

“Well?” I challenged, swallowing back the acid in my throat. “Are you going to say something or just continue to stand there and gawk?”

He remained wordless, blinking down at me with anger and tension brewing all over his face.

With a furious sigh, I stomped over to the couch and sank down, rubbing tiredly at my eyes.

“What do you want, Isaac? Why are you here?”

“I’m here to talk about your recruitment,” he finally answered. “But first, you can start by telling me what the fuck that whole situation with Brian was about.”

His response had me grinding my teeth. Shaking my head, I said, “It’s nothing I can’t handle on my own. And as for the other thing, all of you can go fuck yourselves. I’m not doing it. So, you might as well leave.”
