I shook my head. That one had been for the shock, but I needed to keep my wits about me. I didn’t want to end up in another situation like I had in the alley beside the club.

“Let’s find you something else to wear,” he said. “This way.”

I set down my glass on the coffee table and got unsteadily to my feet. I was still in my heels, and, upon seeing me wobble, Jayden put out his hand to catch mine.

“Easy,” he said, as though I was a spooked horse.

I stared at where his fingers met mine. His grip was firm but gentle. His hands warm, where my fingers were cold. I looked up, my lips parted slightly, to meet his gaze. The air seemed to still all around us. I couldn’t even draw in a breath.

He let go of my hand as though I’d burned him and took a step away, clearing his throat.

A little part of me was disappointed. Womanising Jayden Wynter, yet he didn’t seem to even want to touch me. I remembered how, in the alleyway, he’d glanced down at my exposed breast.

He was the son of my father’s enemy.

No, that wasn’t even right. My father’s enemy was dead now, and Jayden had stepped into his place.

Hewasmy father’s enemy.

Chapter Three

Jayden

––––––––

WHAT THE FUCK WAS Idoing?

Ivy Gilligan was no better than the rest of her fucking family, and here I was with her in my own private domain, giving her expensive vodka and letting her have the pick of my sister’s clothes.

Just because I’d found her in a vulnerable situation didn’t change who she was. That she was small and curvy, and when she’d accidentally flashed her tit at me it had taken all my self-control not to cover her nipple with my mouth, didn’t change anything either.

I should take her to a different hotel. Fuck. I should just drop her outside her father’s house. It wasn’t as though I didn’t know where they lived. Why should I care if it meant she’d have a rough time of it?

I remembered what Leo Cornell had done to get revenge on the man who’d murdered Leo’s fiancée. He’d taken the daughter instead. Was that what was going on in the back of my mind?

No. I had to be smarter than that.
