I ran to the car, carrying her in my arms, bullets hitting the cars. Their snipers were down and mine took out the other assault rifles. A bullet hit me in the back and made me grunt, but my vest protected me from the worst of it. Then a bullet hit me in the arm. I felt the blood flood the sleeve of my jacket.

I got her into the car, and the driver took off.

I ripped off the sleeve of her sweater and saw her normally olive skin covered in scarlet blood. I grabbed the emergency bandages and secured them around her wound, applying the right pressure to stop the bleeding.

She panted. She cried. Her eyes looked weak, like she was already slipping away.

“Sweetheart, look at me.”

After a short fight, she lifted her gaze and looked at me. Her expression changed, falling into despair.

“You’re going to be okay. But I need you to stay with me until we get to the hospital. Okay?”

She gave a slight nod.

“Eyes on me.”

She gave another nod. “I…I can’t believe he did that.”

I was an idiot for not anticipating it. A fucking idiot.

“I’m so sorry…” Her eyes dropped, and then she leaned against the seat, suddenly looking very tired. “I’m sorry…”

“Sweetheart, stay with me.”

Her eyes closed.

“Stay with me.”

In the meantime, check out Hartrow’s brand-new author Tamara Balliana. She's written an incredible romantic comedy that readers will love.

Penelope Sky would like to give a personal introduction.

I rarely read romantic comedies, but this book was so great that it stayed with me long after I finished it. It's one of those feel-good, funny, endearing stories where you just get attached to the characters. You've got Finn, this stubborn, hard-headed cop (who the heroine describes as having a stick up his ass LMAO) and of course, he's HAWT. Roxane happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, witnessing a murder, and now that murderer wants her head too. Turns out, the only person that can protect her is this sexy, brooding cop that's been obsessed with catching this guy for years. When these two characters are together, the chemistry is off the pages. The banter, oh my lord, is hilarious. Watching these two argumentative and confrontational characters soften for one another was deeply satisfying. Hartwick asked me to read just the first book, but I liked it so much, I've read them all. Each book is a standalone, but the next books are about Finn's brothers...who are also HAWT. Cops, firefighters, lawyers...all tough guys that turn to goddamn mush when the right woman walks in. 5 Stars. No, I take that back. 10 stars. Ms. Balliana earned it.

"Sooooo good. Funny. Sexy. Endearing. It has all the elements I love in a romance. I love romantic comedies, and this is a story that belongs on Netflix or the big screen. There's this scene with a vindictive chicken when they're cooped up in the country house...you'll have to read it to see what I mean. But it's hilarious. Totally 5 Stars."

"I read books in all kinds of genres. A good story is a good story, regardless of the label it gets. Well, this is a fantastic romantic comedy. Not only is it funny, but it's heartwarming, sexy, and just plain fun. I flipped through the pages of this standalone like a mad woman, and then I immediately asked for the other books in the series because these Rossi brothers are HAWT. Cops, firefighters, and lawyers...they're so sexy. And the women are hot too. I could see myself getting a drink with all of them and having a night on the town."
