With my gun still raised, I quietly wait to see what move he makes next.

“I’m going to be honest, Hawke, I have been hoping this day would come,” he finally reveals.

Not saying a word, I allow the silence to envelop the room while continuing to hold my stance.

“You, of all people, should understand this,” he says. “I’m a traditional man, much like yourself, and one who believes in finishing what I started. I eliminated your family, so it’s only right that I am the one to kill you as well.”

The mention of my deceased wife and daughter makes my blood boil, yet I refuse to allow him to bait me.

“So calm, so composed,” he continues to torture.

“I’m a man of few words, Alejandro, and if you knew anything of me, you’d know I don’t engage in fruitless conversation,” I announce, shifting my position slightly. “I also don’t feel the need to feed your arrogance.” I aggravate further.

“You know the moment you pull that trigger, my men will open fire on you,” he angrily declares.

“You would think that, wouldn’t you?”

Without raising any suspicion, Jackson and Mark manage to enter the room while Alejandro is talking, silently positioning themselves directly behind his unsuspecting men. If his men were smart, one should have been watching Sean while the others focused their attention on me. Obviously, they aren’t because no one pays any regard to Sean, which allows more of our men to enter the room and sneak up on them.

“Now, who is being arrogant?” he laughs.

In the blink of an eye, Mark, Jackson, and Sean disable Alejandro’s armed men with ease disposing of them quietly on the ground behind him. Creeping closer, Mark and Sean are on point behind Alejandro while Jackson guards the door to the room we believe Emily and Hadley are in.

“I do not need arrogance, Alejandro. Look around you; your men can’t help you anymore.”

As he quickly turns, a look of panic suddenly lines his face when he realizes he is outmanned.

“There is nowhere to run,” I point out.

Accepting his fate, he turns back toward me and raises his gun. “Then I guess this is it,” he reluctantly proclaims.

Knowing it will be him or me, I pull the trigger and fire. As I watch his lifeless body fall to the ground, a sense of relief flows through me.

Seventeen years ago, I was full of rage over the death of my family, and my revenge consumed me. I may not have been the one to enforce it back then, but today I got to avenge their deaths and finally give my wife and daughter the justice they rightly deserve.

“All clear, but we’ll need Mandi’s assistance at the front entry,” I hear Mark convey to the others.

“On my way,” her voice echoes through my earpiece.

I watch as Sean rushes to his father’s side only to be told to continue the mission. Defeatedly, he abides by his father's wishes and follows Mark and Jackson in search of Hadley and Emily.

“You are a stubborn old man,” I tell my friend, kneeling beside him.

“It’s just a dress wound, Hawke; I’m fine.” He grunts in return.

“And Sean is still your son,” I remind him.

Groaning, he accepts that he may have been a little harsh on his son but insists he is fine and needs Sean to stay focused.

“Go, Hawke, go help them,” he urges, shooing me away as Mandi approaches.

“I’ll look after him,” Mandi insists. Grabbing onto my arm, she smiles and gives me the assurance I’ve been seeking, “Liam and Quinn have secured Emily.”

CHAPTERSEVENTEEN

Hadley

“What have you done, Hadley?” Antonio screams at me as Emily runs from the room.
