“Answer me honestly. How many girls have you drugged in your life?” I ask, wanting a gauge of how bad this guy is. Not that one time isn’t enough, because it sure as fuck is, but I need to know how deep the compulsion should go.

“This was my first time,” He responds.

My shoulders drop. Thank goodness there aren’t other girls out there I couldn’t help, that have suffered at his hand.

“You will never try to harm another living being again. You will never drug someone or force yourself on them. You will be a model citizen in every way. Do you understand?”

He nods. His eyes are hazy from the compulsion I’m pumping into him.

Great, one more psycho off the streets and set on the straight and narrow.

There’s one last thing for me to do. He did try to drug a girl tonight, and who knows what his plan for her was. Though he didn’t get that far, he deserves to be punished.

And a girl has to eat.

I lean close to his body, my nose assaulted by the disgusting aftershave he’s coated himself in. It’strulyoffensive. Trying to ignore that, I get close to his neck before whispering, “Don’t scream, don’t move, and don’t fight back.”

My fangs sink into the soft flesh of his neck, and I drink. Although his blood is warm, it tastes stale as it flows into my mouth. It is subpar at best but enough to satisfy my cravings. If I don’t feed, I risk losing control and fading into a husk of myself.

I pull back, licking the wound to close it before cleaning up the mess on my face. His flavor still sits on my tongue, reminding me he’s human.

Humans don’t taste as good as other supernatural beings do. Without power flowing through their veins, the blood is flat. It doesn’t compare to my best friend’s blood. She’s incredibly powerful and fed me her blood after I had just transitioned, ensuring I had enough while trying to ease me into this new life. Her mates were weary, but Aly trusted me completely.

I bring my focus back to the issue standing in front of me.

“You won’t tell a soul about what happened tonight. You will not remember me. Now go home,” I tell him. He complies immediately.

I relax as I return to the bar, confident he won’t be a problem again. I needed a new life’s purpose, and punishing predators has become it.

I apply the finishing touches on my bright red lipstick to complement my new aesthetic and complete the natural eye shadow of browns and tans, light contour, and neutral blush I’ve already applied for dinner at Aly’s house.

I can’t turn down a dinner invite when Jay, Aly’s wolf-shifter mate, is cooking. He’s an incredible cook.

We both live close to Brickstone University’s campus. My bartending job is here, and nowhere else interests me enough to consider moving. Plus, the only other supernaturals I know live here. Aly and her mates have one more year of university to make up for the year they were mostly absent after their lives blew up.

I grab my purse and start walking since my apartment is plenty close to Aly’s.

A dog barks as I knock on the door, and I get excited to see Bailey. Aly’s ‘dog’ is her familiar, a magical animal, but since he’s been a dog longer to me, I think of him that way.

One of Aly’s mates opens the door. He’s tall and defined, with golden skin and hair styled shorter on the sides and a little longer on the top.

“Hey, Kiran,” I say as he lets me inside.

“Hey, Anna! So glad you could come.” He pulls me in for a tight hug before releasing me to the rest of the room.

Jeremy, Aly’s tall demon mate with black hair, black eyes, and stubble along his jawline, nods to me in acknowledgment.

I don’t get to see the rest of them before Aly barges into me.

“Hi! I’ve missed you so much!” She squeezes me tight, and I return the gesture. I love this girl more than anything. She’s my bestie, my ride-or-die. I don’t know what I would do without her.

“I missed you too. I’m sorry, I’ve just been so busy with everything.” That’s my current lie. I’m hoping she assumes it’s with job applications, but in reality, I had a shift the last couple of times she asked me over.

“No worries. Of course, you’re busy! I’m just glad you’re still close enough to come over. Jay is making lasagna for dinner and refuses to let anyone help,” she tells me.
