It’s the exact same handwriting from the last note I received. My heart starts pumping. It’s harder to ignore this one. Someone didn’t accidentally slide this under my door.

Was that the noise I heard? Someone leaving this here for me?

“Hey, Anna!” Felix says from behind me.

I jump. How did he sneak up on me?

I quickly shove the note inside my shirt, hiding it from him. Until I figure out what’s going on, I don’t need anyone else to know about this. I wouldn’t hate having allies but if I tell Felix, he will freak out and tell everyone. I just know Akshole will find a way to use this against me.

Twenty Three

Anna

We are sitting in the living room going over the incident at the fight club for the hundredth time. Everyone is rehashing every detail in case we missed something.

I keep glossing over the scene in the closet with Griffyn, but they all heard on the comms anyway. Something I’m determined not to think about.

No one has brought it up to me, and I’m happy to leave it that way. I thought Felix might be mad or Griffyn might want to revisit it, but thankfully no one did.

“So, we have no further clues on where to find Ryan and no idea when the next fight club will be to try again,” Aksel huffs.

“They won’t be hosting another one any time soon. That was a disaster, and there were a lot of rich, important people there who got hurt,” Blaze says.

There’s been something I’ve been thinking about, and I think it’s time to finally bring it up.

“There is somewhere else we could look for clues,” I say.

All the eyes in the room turn and fix on me.

“What is it?” Felix asks.

“Well, Aly and her mates went to see Ryan in his home for answers before they knew he’s a bad guy-”

Aksel cuts me off. “And you didn’t think to mention this before?”

Griffyn comes to my rescue. “Let her finish before you start bitching.”

Akshole rolls his eyes but stays quiet.

“I didn’t think to mention it because a team from the council already checked it. He’s not there anymore. Shouldn’t you guys know that?”

Why wouldn’t the council fill them in on the case they’re assigned?

They share a look. Clearly, this team can communicate with their eyes. Or do they have a pack bond? With a pack bond, they can speak into each other’s minds.

Finally, they turn back to me, but they don’t reveal much.

“We were not told about this. How do you know?” Blaze asks, voice gruff. He sounds annoyed, but I don’t think it’s directed at me.

“Nic was updated after it happened.”

They all nod like that makes sense, but the severe frowns on their faces make me think something else is wrong. I don’t press.

“So you think he may have left some clues behind that the other team missed?” Felix asks.

“It’s worth a try. We don’t have anything else to go on. The team might not have looked into it if they were only looking to see if he was still there,” I say.

“It’s a good point. We should check it out,” Blaze says, looking to his leader for their next steps.
