“Oh, Savs, you’re not rotting meat.” She giggled.

“No. I’m not physically decaying, but my soul’s not faring that well knowing he’s around.”

“But you’ve got your nine-inch hottie keeping your toes warm at night. That must remove some of the angst.”

I nodded wistfully. Sienna was right. With Carson around, even Bram and that atrocious sex tape were just tolerable.

AfterleavingSienna,Iwas about to hail a cab for Mayfair when I sensed someone following me. I turned but didn’t see anyone. Shrugging it off, I thought paranoia had played tricks on me, since watching over my shoulders had become a habit.

Bram was meant to be in LA. That was the deal after I’d dropped charges, despite everyone, including Carson, begging me not to.

As I travelled along in the taxi, I kept turning behind me and noticed a cab on our tail.

“Is that car following us?” I asked.

The driver looked in the rear vision mirror. “Not sure, lass. I’ll keep an eye out if you like. Is someone chasing you?”

“Not as such.” I exhaled a nervous breath.

The cab delivered me home, and I climbed out. Just as he drove off, I noticed a shadow, and the next minute, Bram stood before me.

As I screamed, he placed his hand over my mouth. “Don’t. I will not hurt you. I just needed to see you.”

Under the dim streetlamp, he looked like he’d been sleeping rough. Although his hair was typically messy, his eyes, resembling dark, hollow pits, screamed in desperation.

“You shouldn’t be here. I’ve got a restraining order on you.”

“I just want some money.”

Scratching his arms, he looked scrawnier than usual, like he was all skin on bones. He’d clearly fallen victim to his addiction.

“I’ve still got copies of that video, you realise? Give me something and I’ll go away.”

“What about the deal that was made? And I don’t have any cash on me.”

“Transfer some. Now. I can wait.”

On the pretext that I was about to transfer some funds, I scrolled through my phone and sent Carson a text. “Help. Bram’s here. I’m at Mayfair.”

It beeped back.

Bram grabbed my arm roughly. “Who are you texting? Transfer the cash now.” He squeezed my arm, and I cried out. “Shut the fuck up. Now, Savvie.”

“It’s dark out here. I can’t see what I’m doing.” I was close to tears. “Just let me go inside. I’ll be able to arrange the funds for you there.”

Noticing Alfred at the doorway, Bram said, “I’m not an idiot. You’ll call the cops. I want it now. If that money’s not in my account within half an hour, that sex tape’s going out to social media and all my contacts, which are half of yours too.”

“You’ll be arrested,” I said.

“They won’t know where to fucking find me.” An evil smile flashed before me. It was the most animated he’d looked so far. He pointed in my face. “Get it done. Or else.” He slipped off into the shadows, and I raced up the stairs.

Alfred looked worried. “Is everything all right?”

“I’m fine.”

I ran into my bedroom and called Carson.

He picked up straight away. “I’m driving in now. I’m an hour away.”
