Savanah and her moaning in my mouth as I entered her filled my thoughts. That was pure, unadulterated lust. Nothing more. And we were like chalk and cheese.

As we headed back downstairs, I said, “I like what you’ve done to this place.”

Little Julian scampered over. “Dadda. Dadda.” He held a model plane and was about to throw it when Declan removed it from his hand.

“How did you get ahold of that?” he asked.

The maid came running out. “I’m so sorry, Declan. I was cleaning it.”

Theadora brought out a pot of tea. “He loves that plane.”

“I made that in grade six.” Declan removed the wooden plane from his little son’s hands.

Declan shook his head and smiled. “He wants what he can’t have.”

“Welcome to being human.” I chuckled. “On that philosophical note, I bid you all farewell.”

“Are you going to Salon Soir’s opening?” Theadora asked as they walked me to the door with Julian following along making cute gurgling sounds.

“The casino’s having an opening tomorrow,” Declan added.

I nodded. “Your mother asked me to work as security.”

“You can’t. You should just enjoy the night,” Theadora said. “There’ll be lots of pretty girls.” She virtually winked at Declan.

My head jerked back. “Am I giving off some kind of lonely vibe here?”

She chuckled. “No. But a girlfriend wouldn’t hurt.”

“In that scene? My bank account’s not exactly up for brunch at Harrods.”

Declan patted my back. “Theadora wants everyone loved up. She enjoys wearing pretty gowns and having any excuse for a wedding or a party. Right?” He drew her in tight and placed a lingering kiss on her cheek.

“Talking of looking pretty, I’ll have to hire a suit then, I guess,” I said.

Theadora giggled. “You’re far from pretty, Carson.”

Smiling, I kissed her cheek and waved goodbye.

Protecting Savanah from Bram, and how I’d like her naked, gyrating over me again, entered my thoughts as I walked back to Reboot.

Thescentofperfumeand cologne wafted thick through the air. There was no shortage of exposed skin on show, while the men mainly wore tuxedos. Some were clad in waistcoats, and others wore white dinner jackets. All in all, suitably swanky as they poured through the doors into the new casino.

My jacket felt strapped on. I’d allowed the girl to talk me into a snug fit. According to her, women liked their men in suits that showed off their muscles. Not that I was on a mission to pick up. Too complicated in that wealthy scene. Besides, there was only one woman I had the hots for, and that presented all kinds of issues.

Working as security, Drake stood at the door, but instead of a cross-armed stance and stony face, he was all smiles because of Manon. Wearing a tiny dress that left nothing to the imagination, it seemed she had him eating out of her palm. His eyes filled with stars while she giggled and flirted.

I needed to remind him that security work meant looking tough the whole time and not dropping your guard. Even if a pretty girl offered to show her tits or blow you.

Spoken from experience. In my early days out of the army, I’d done just that and lost a few jobs, thanks to a raging libido.

“Hey, big man.” Drake smiled.

“Hey.” I nodded at him and then Manon, who looked me up and down with a smirk.

“It’s quite a place.” I pointed at the rock-walled façade lit by a changing colour light show. The design blended so well with Elysium to appear as though both establishments were connected. I couldn’t have imagined Caroline Lovechilde approving of that. One of a few mysteries surrounding that family. I just couldn’t understand her affiliating with someone like Crisp. I’d met a few snakes in my life, and he would have been right at home among those slippery characters.

“So, look, um…” I turned to Manon. “Can you give us a minute?”
