A dark cloud drifted over me. I wasn’t ready to face anyone, and this was to be a one-month getaway. I also wasn’t ready to be separated from Carson.

I pushed that thought aside and tried to think about now and not tomorrow, something I was always good at. I hardly looked beyond two hours.

Bram must have knocked on some dormant part of my brain. Not that I believed his attack had done me good. Or had it?

I wouldn’t have been here. I would probably be in London lunching with Jacinta or Sienna, talking about the latest Balenciaga range.

That phone signal, however, couldn’t come fast enough, so I could call my mother. She would have been worried sick after not hearing from me in days. Just as that thought arrived, a car drove in, and I hurried out to meet Carson in the Range Rover he’d hired.

“That was quicker than I expected.”

He looked me up and down, and a smile grew on his bearded face.

“What?” I chuckled.

“You’re back to your fashion best I see.” He stroked my exposed navel. “Sexy. A bit chilly though, isn’t it?”

My nipples tightened. The cool air had little to do with it. Carson’s eyes hooded as they roamed up and down my body and settled on my nipples.

That man could make me come by just looking at me.

“I couldn’t exactly go to town in my father’s oversized jumper. While we’re there, I’ll shop and find some village wear. There are boutiques, I hope. Last time I visited, I was probably more interested in getting an ice cream than finding the latest Stella McCartney must-have.”

He smiled. “I’d be happy to buy you an ice cream. If only to watch you devour it.”

I slapped his arm. “You’ve just got blowjobs on your mind.”

He frowned. “No. I’ve got eggs and bacon on my mind. Can I invite you to a nice big hot breakfast?”

“Oh, yes, please,” I crooned.

Afterwhathadbeenfour days of isolation and nonstop orgasms and me baring my soul to a man that had taken my heart, I found myself in Port Ives. It felt odd walking around a village but also nice to sit in a café and order breakfast.

“I never thought I’d love the smell of bacon and eggs so much.” I bit into a slice of crispy bacon. The salty, oily flavour set my taste buds firing.

“I’m with you there,” Carson said.

After breakfast, I called my mother.

“Savanah.” She sounded alarmed. “I’ve been worried sick. You haven’t returned my messages, and Declan’s been calling Carson. I even called the local police. They informed me that the road was flooded and suggested that you probably didn’t have a signal. I was just about to send them to the house to check on you.”

“I’m great, Mum.” I smiled. “I haven’t had a signal. I’m in the village. The roads have only just opened.”

“You sound well, sweetheart.”

“I am. But hey, Lochridge is a mess. Jim was nowhere to be seen. There are dust covers everywhere. We found rotting food in the fridge. It was pretty dreadful. No central heating like you’d arranged.”

“Oh my goodness. I’ll get the police onto him.”

“There could be a reasonable explanation.” I wasn’t about to admit that I enjoyed the novelty of roughing it.

“Oh my. So how have you managed?”

Um… Sleeping with my security guard. Hundreds of orgasms. Who needs modern conveniences?

“Um… I’ve managed.” I smiled.

“At least you sound upbeat. Better than when you left.”
