What happens next if I choose the latter?

Standing up straighter than before, in a subtle act of defiance, I slip the straps of my bra down my shoulders. The band, unclasped, falls forward as the thin veil of innocence I’d had before slips from my breasts and lands at his feet.

I hear his breath shuddering, his face only six inches from mine, just as it was when we kissed. “If you keep acting up, I’m going to do unspeakable things to you.”

A combination of vicious arousal and pure dread washes over me, reaching depths in my lower belly that I didn’t even know existed.

He leans forward, his mouth mere inches from my left ear as I feel him push my hair back.

“Now try on your fucking dress.”

DOMINIK

Ican’t believe I had the restraint to keep myself from fucking Mika in that fitting room. I don’t think I would have been able to hold back at all. We would have gotten caught for sure, and I’m certain that word would get back to Remi at breakneck speed.

Looking into Mika’s eyes as she undressed had shaken something loose in me that I thought I had under control. Jerking off in the guest bathroom wasn’t enough for me, I guess. Now, I have an urge in me that I’d never experienced before in my life.

And I can’t even have her.

There’s something about Mika that seems softer now. I don’t know if she’s done it on purpose, but I’m able to see through the front that she puts up to keep people out. She wants so, so badly to be a heartless ice queen, a mean girl with money who walks all over people. But she isn’t, and it’s becoming increasingly apparent to me.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve seen her naked now, but my instinct to protect her has elevated to a significant degree. Instead of just being a mouthy little bitch that I’m in charge of babysitting, she’s just a naïve, overconfident flower of a girl who could be in grave danger at any moment.

The fact that I know about her impending wedding that she’s completely unaware of is starting to make me a little sick. Why do I deserve to know such a thing when even she is left in the dark? She’s being forced to marry a stranger, someone who could abuse her and violate her, just to maintain peace in her father’s criminal dealings.

As we walk, neither of us says a thing. There’s nothing to say at this point. One of us is going to break sooner than later, and there’s no amount of rationalizing that would make it okay. I hope to god it isn’t me. At least then I could feel absolved of my guilt.

The parking garage is just as grimy and dark as any that I’ve seen, and I pull Mika close to my side to keep her safe. As soon as she feels me drawing her close, she wraps her arm around my back to secure her to my hip. There are still no words. We still don’t need any.

It only takes a couple of minutes of walking before we hear screaming on the upper level where our driver has parked the car. I grab Mika and pull her behind a car as I assess the chaos of sound echoing through the structure.

The driver is screaming, and it’s evident that he’s being attacked by someone. That alone is cause for alarm, and I motion for Mika to stay as hidden as possible before I sprint towards the screaming.

With my blood spiked with adrenaline, I run up the ramp until I can get a full view of what’s happening. The driver is being beaten by a group of men that I’ve never seen before, but they don’t appear to be with the Albanian mafia. My next guess is Italian, which means they were somehow notified that we were here to begin with. Goddamn it.

The assailants don’t see me right away, which I’m able to use to my advantage as I scan my surroundings for a weapon. I’m not expecting to find anything good, but judging by the way the fight is going, I’ll be the only one fighting on the Russian side.

The idea that there could be more of them waiting to capture Mika sends me into a blind rage. I’ve never felt so much anger in my entire life. I didn’t even know I was capable of it.

But I need to protect her, even if it kills me.

To my surprise, I see a glass bottle lying under the tire of an SUV parked to my right. I never knew I could count on another person’s alcoholism to come to my aid, especially not a bored housewife.

I grab the bottle and sprint full speed towards the fight, just as one of the men is about to deliver a fatal blow to the driver’s head.

Only one person sees me before I smash the bottle over the leader’s head, and by the time he registers my presence, it’s too late for him. With the broken handle of the bottle, I gouge him in the eye as he staggers towards me. His scream is absolutely horrific. Had I never heard something similar before, I would have gotten nauseated from the sound alone as it echoes.

He’s given up easily enough, but there are still two more men who jump on my back as soon as I turn around. They’re smaller than me, but having two of them on me is a clear disadvantage. Their goal is to throw me to the ground and subdue me, which means they’re looking for intel. They don’t want to kill me yet, but they need to overpower me.

I elbow the larger of the two in the stomach, and he coughs as he releases himself from my neck and crashes into the hood of the car.

The smaller man reaches his arm around my neck in an attempt to choke me, but it’s evident that he’s never done this before in his life. He underestimated just how difficult it would be to strangle me, even from behind.

When he realizes that his methods of strangulation are ineffective, he grows frustrated and begins punching me in the side of the head. The vision in my left eye has gone red, and every blow sends a horrific shockwave through my skull and down my spine.

I’m able to gather what’s left of my strength to throw him over my shoulder. His body is audibly cracked in half over the back of the car, and he falls like dead weight onto the pavement. Blood begins to pour out from under his head, and it isn’t long before he begins seizing.
