"Speech!"

"Ah, yes, my speech," Jessie laughed. A woman in a light yellow dress stepped up beside him. Even from this distance, the size of the rock on her hand sparkled. She was in her forties, with gentle curls that curved around her soft features. Jessie slipped his hand into hers.

"Well, it's going to be a short one," Jessie said. "I've had one too many to say too much, but I invited you all here tonight, my nearest and dearest, because Alexandra and I have an announcement to make.”

A group of photographers at the back of the room started snapping pictures.

The security guy was weaving through the crowd, the only person walking against the grain. He was definitely headed toward me.

Jessie grinned. "Your suspicions have been correct. After much discussion, I've gotten my beautiful wife's blessing. I will be running for President—" the crowd gasped and cheered, "—in the upcoming election!"

I didn't know what startled me more. That I'd just stolen a video from the future president-elect or that his security was about to interrogate me.

"There you are." Lucas appeared beside me. "Did you get lost in the dark?"

The security was only half a dozen heads away, and I needed to do something, anything to change the topic of conversation, to make it look like I belonged here.

"Fuck it."

Standing on my tip toes, I weaved my hand around Lucas's neck, pressed my breasts against his chest, and slid my tongue inside his mouth.

He hesitated, but then his hands weaved around my waist, and his tongue curled around mine. It had been ten years since I'd kissed him, and it became clear that two things had remained the same.

The electricity between us hadn't faded one bit, and it was that exact passion that scared everyone around us away.

When I opened my eyes, Jessie's security had disappeared. I'd accomplished what I'd sought out to do by kissing him.

I could stop now...except...why did he feel so good?

My eyes closed, I fell into the kiss, and everything around us disappeared.

LUCAS

How was it possible that, after all this time, Olive's lips still meshed perfectly with mine? Kissing her was like a dance, her tongue following my lead, spinning away and curling back, a tease I couldn't resist.

My fingers slid into her hair, cupping her face as she tightened her arms around my neck. As her hips pressed against my pelvis, blood rushed to my cock. Behind us, the flash of a camera bulb snapped me back into reality.

Not only was PDA so far from my thing, but I was also surrounded by the top of Boston's political elite. This wouldn't look good. Still, I didn't break away from her kiss, and I wasn't exactly sure why.

Jessie's laughter shattered the moment. "Well, would you look at the two love birds?" Olive pulled away, her cheeks flushing red. She lifted her hand to her face, stifling her own laugh with her knuckles.

Olive's smile spread across her freckled cheeks. "Mr. Isaacs, thank you for such a nice party."

"Oh dear Jesus, don't age me!" Jessie cackled. "Please, call me Jessie."

Olive nodded. "Jessie."

Jessie gave a drunken bow, squeezed her hand, and kissed the tip of her fingers. "You, my dear, are a doll. You are welcome back any time." He slapped my shoulder. "What'd you think of my speech?"

I slipped my hand into my pockets. "You did great, Jess."

"You two will definitely have to come back for the next speech. "Jessie slapped my shoulder and gave a sloppy wink. He touched his lip. "Lucas, you got some, ehh..." He smirked, and then sauntered off to the bar.

I touched my mouth, removing the stains of Olive's lipstick on my lips.

She chewed her bottom lip. "Sorry about that."
