Mike's jaw dropped. "Well, if that's not going to make my day."
I twisted in my chair to look at the breaking news story. Jessie Isaacs in handcuffs being escorted out of his apartment to the local Boston jail. I couldn't even contain my laugh. "Well, that's fortunate timing," I grinned.
Adam's eyes burst open, and he cleared his throat. "Speaking of timing."
I spun around in my chair as Olive approached our table in the back. She was glowing, her smile widening as she sat down beside me. "Did you see? He got arrested."
Pressing my lips together, I grinned. "Guess those scandalous videos did their job."
She gave me a sly smirk and squeezed my knee under the table. We'd agreed it would be her last hacking job, one with a motive that went beyond money. This was about sealing Jessie's fate and putting him where he belonged. The last thing Quinn gave us before he disappeared off the grid forever.It couldn't have been more fitting.
The server appeared with Claire's usual dessert, setting the ice cream sundae in front of her.
"Yum," Olive said, grinning.
"Do you want a bite, mommy?" she asked.
"I'm okay, honey."
Claire slid the sundae sideways to her mom. "No, I think this is for you, mom."
Beside me, Adam and Mike clenched their jaws, their smiles too obvious.
Olive glanced around the table. "Why are you all smiling like that? You're acting weird."
"Mom," Claire grinned, pointing at the dessert. "I think you should eat the sundae."
Olive's brow furrowed as she looked at the dessert and then did a double take. On the edge of the plate was the diamond engagement ring Claire had helped me pick out. Olive gasped, touching her face.
Choking back tears, I plucked the ring off the plate and bent down onto one knee. "Olive Winters? You're my best friend, the mother of my child, and the love of my life. Will you do me the honor of making me your husband?"
Olive gave a ferocious nod, laughing through the tears that spilled down her cheeks. "Yes, yes!"
"Yay!" Claire shouted, jumping up on her chair.
Adam and Mike cheered, hugging each other. Applause broke out in the restaurant as I slid the diamond on Olive 's left finger.
She took my hand and helped me to my feet, wrapping her arms around me and kissing me. "I love you, Lucas, so much. I'm so lucky."
I lifted her off the ground, squeezing her. "Are you kidding me? I'm the lucky one. I love you, baby."
