Her mouth fell open. “What?”

“Just happened.”

“Where’s my phone—” Her phone slid into her hand. A feeling of warmth washed over her as she turned, her gaze connecting instantly with her tall and muscular bodyguard.

“Graham…” Her voice softened.

She swallowed. After over seven years of working together, she would have thought she had grown immune to his handsome looks. He was a mammoth of a man with slicked dark hair, a tinge of gray at the temples, and a five-o’clock shadow framing his sharp jaw, which was clenched.

As usual.

“Thank you,” she murmured.

His forest green eyes bore into hers and she swallowed again.

“It’s nothing, baby, you don’t get involved in these politics. Just keep singin’,” Barney continued.

Shay’s eyes fell to Graham’s broad chest, which strained against his T-shirt.

She liked to think the color black was made for him, always in black cargo pants and boots to match. She knew his weapon was hidden somewhere on his body. His eyes briefly left her brown ones, scanning over her curvy figure in the sequined leotard she wore.

“Anything for you, princess.” There was a hint of teasing in his deep baritone voice.

Shay willed her heart to slow. How long had she fantasized about that voice? His dark rasp whispering her name. His plump lips brushing along her skin, or murmuring all the dark and naughty things he wanted to do with her under the cover of the night?

Barney’s words sank in.

“Excuse me?”

“You’re not the type to rock the boat. That’s why I don’t think you’ll be interested in this new gig.” Barney turned to Graham. “What did you think of Shay’s performance, bodyguard?”

Shay and Graham both frowned at Barney.

“She was perfect, like always.”

Shay searched and scanned an article about the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“You don’t have to be coy, man; she’s already paying you to protect her. Don’t have to kiss her ass any more than that!” Barney chuckled.

There were times when she wanted to fire Barney, but he was a damn good manager. He believed in her when no one else did.

“I’m not kissing her ass. She’s perfect.Always.”

Graham caught her eye and she exhaled shakily, giving him a polite smile as she placed a hand on his arm. “Thank you, Graham.”

Heat singed where her palm connected with his exposed skin.

“You don’t want to do this charity thing. Raising funds to help women travel for abortions. It’s not your thing.”

Emotions whirled in her chest as memories she had suppressed returned.Young love. Her budding career.

“I’ll do it.”

“What?” Barney and Graham said.

“I want to join the charity concert.”

Barney shook his head. “Shay Baby—”
