For his sake and the sake of the center, she hoped he could. “Great. Come on in.”

“Thanks.”

She punched in the code and motioned him in. Since Trent had helped out before, he knew his way around. This time, his job would be answering the phones, providing information to callers, and doing a lot of filing. “How good are you on the computer?”

“Pretty good. I’m sure my sister told you I wasn’t a great student, and she’d be right, but when it came to learning when it suited me, I excelled. As you know, I liked to gamble. I mostly did online gambling, and for that, you have to know your way around the different programs.”

“Then you’ll fit right in.”

For the next two hours, she helped him with the phone systems, the rules of the rescue center, as well as how to fill out the forms for those who wanted to adopt an animal.

“I got this,” he said.

That was such a relief. When Alan and Brett arrived, they seemed quite pleased that Trent would be Julia’s replacement. Tawny had told them that her former assistant ran into some trouble with the law, but that was all. Alan didn’t need to learn about werewolves.

Just as she was about to head to her office, her father came in. She turned around. “This is a surprise.”

In fact, Tawny couldn’t remember the last time he’d visited.

“I wanted to give you some news.” He turned to Trent. “Julia’s replacement?”

“Yes.” She waited for her dad to tell her it was a bad idea, but he said nothing.

“Want to come into the office?” she asked.

“I think both you and Trent should hear this.”

Then it must be news on the man her father was hunting: Paul Franklin.

“Did you find Mr. Franklin?”

“We did. In case he had backup, I took Alex, Liam, Seth, Trevor, and Benson with me. The man was surprised we found him, but he went quietly.”

“He probably thinks you have nothing on him,” she said.

“He killed my girlfriend,” Trent said to her father. “I thought you said you had evidence?”

Dad held up a hand. “I do. Don’t worry. Franklin will be convicted on multiple counts, I can assure you. The man is evil.”

Her father’s words seemed to transform Trent. The anger seeped out of him like a deflated balloon. “Wow,” he said.

She felt the same way. “Is it over then? I mean, really over? Are the Grangers safe?”

“It’s as over as it will ever be,” her dad said. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and walked her to the hallway. “I wanted to say that you have picked two very fine men. I will be happy to call Alex and Liam son.”

Tears welled in her eyes. She hadn’t even told her mother that she was mated to wolves. Of course, it only happened last night.

“Thank you. I am incredibly happy.”

Her father, who was not usually demonstrative, hugged her. “We’ll have a ceremony when you want.”

She hadn’t even thought about walking down the aisle, but the idea appealed to her. “Thank you." Alex and Liam must have spilled the beans.

“Be sure to stop by the house. You know your mom. She’ll be furious if you don’t give her all the details right away.”

Her mom would probably have a heart attack if Tawny detailed things they’d done in the bedroom. “I’ll stop by after work.”

“You do that.”
