A deep, violent roar catches my attention. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a man charging toward me. He lookspissed.

“You!” he seethes, coming at me like a charging bull.

“Get away from her, Favreaux!”

A shiver lances through me as Gabriel leaps over a cement barricade, landing on Favreaux with a heftythud.

I can’t believe it. He’s here! He’s alive and well, and for now, I’m over the moon even as they exchange blow after blow. I join the fight, eager to give Favreaux a piece of my mind after everything he’s put Gabriel and Odette through.

Favreaux is no match for the two of us combined.

Gabriel nails him in the jaw with a punch. I swing my leg back and kick Favreaux right in the balls. Favreaux snaps over at the hips, winded and disoriented, but we refuse to let up. Another kick, another punch. At some point, I’m pretty sure Dad joins in, too. The three of us pummel Favreaux into submission until he’s nothing but a gasping, writhing mess on the cold ground.

Around us, the chaos has started to settle. Armed officers swarm in, subduing gunmen left, right, and center. On the front of their Kevlar vests, the wordINTERPOLis velcroed to the front. I’m about to panic. What if they take us into custody?

“It’s okay,” Gabriel says as if reading my mind. “They’re with Klaus and Anders.”

I frown. “Klaus and Anders?”

“It’s a long story. We’ll have time later.”

I finally allow myself the luxury of breathing. I soak up the warmth of Gabriel’s smile, soothed by the familiar scent of his cologne and the comforting color of his dark eyes. I can’t help but reflect his smile.

“You came for me,” I mutter, breathless.

Gabriel cups my face in his hands. “I’m glad I made it in time.”

“Odette?”

“She’s safe.”

“Thank God.”

“And you?” he whispers, so sweet and concerned. “Are you unharmed?”

My gaze flicks down to his lips. I just can’t help it. I’m so happy I want to kiss him all over. “Yes, I’m fine.”

Dad clears his throat. He looks between Gabriel and me, his arms crossed over his chest. “I don’t know whether to hug you or kill you, Gabe.”

“It’s good to see you too, Chet.”

“I think we should get the fuck out of here,” Dad says. “Maybe check into a hospital. I want to make sure everything’s A-okay with my grandkid.”

Gabriel’s brows knit into a frown. “What grandkid?”

I take his hand, giving his fingers a squeeze. “I have something kind of important to tell you.” A smile stretches across my lips. “There wasn’t a good enough time before, but…”

I let a hand drift to my belly. It’s all Gabriel needs for his brows to shoot up and his eyes to widen, his mouth agape with shock.

“You’re…”

“I am.”

“Raquel, that’s amazing—”

“God, you fuckers make me sick,” Favreaux spits at our feet.

He gets up in a flash, brandishing a knife from his back pocket. Before I even have the chance to react, he grabs me and locks me in a chokehold, the cold bite of metal pressing against my open throat. I go rigid, too afraid to move. All Favreaux has to do is pull his arm back and I’ll bleed to death before help can arrive.
