ChapterEighteen

Iskander

I’ma coward and probably an asshole.

My father will have my head if he learns what I did to Siobhan. It’s not like I left her without a ride back home. I just didn’t take her with me. I couldn’t.

There’s no excuse for what I did earlier, but the idea of having a child or being a part of a family fucked with my head. Siobhan is beautiful, smart, and a great companion.

I could get lost in those light blue crystal eyes. They remind me of the Caribbean Sea unless we’re having sex. Then, she reminds me of a hurricane with a little fire behind the irises burning with me.

Siobhan is a touch of chaos with a soft, loving heart.

If I wanted to fall in love, have a family, and spend the rest of my life with one person, she’d be the best choice.

Do I like to spend time with her?

Of course, if not, I wouldn’t have been with her for the past…

I run a hand through my hair as I realize we stayed together for almost three years. This might be the longest I’ve beenfriendswith a woman. No wonder things were starting to feel all wrong, or is it awkward? I’m not sure how to describe it, but things between us weren’t right anymore.

The last draw was seeing those pregnancy tests. I tried to stay calm, but it was too fucking hard not to remind her that we had a deal. Things between us aren’t serious, and a child… what would I do with a kid?

Fuck him up the way my father did with us.

Still, I probably overreacted. I should’ve taken her to Luna Harbor and made sure she arrived safely. If I wasn’t trying to distance myself from her, I’d be calling to check if she made it home.

Home… why do I keep calling Luna Harbor and the house I’ve been living in for the past few yearshome?

Three years. You left this life for three years. The confusion is completely normal,I respond as if I found some kind of explanation as to why I’m acting like an immature fool.

Luna Harbor is just a place where my grandfather has a few businesses. Siobhan is… the person who helped me get through those years. I was able to spend time with her and avoid my family. I’ll forever be grateful for her company.

I just hope she listens to me and moves out of Luna Harbor. She’s brilliant and a hard worker. Managing the brewery is a waste of her talent. I told her that as many times as I could, will she listen? That’s up for debate. Her best friend lives in Luna Harbor. I don’t know much about her life, but she never talks about her parents or siblings.

Sometimes I think Nydia is all she has. Then again, I never asked if there’s someone else in her life. When we first met, I heard some rumors about a boyfriend who left. I never asked beyond what I heard. It was better to keep our distance because that would’ve broken our rules.

No deep connections.

See, fuck buddies can be a thing if handled appropriately. There aren’t any messy entanglements or loose ends once it’s over. Nando should write a book about it. A piece of advice for those who don’t want long-term relationships.

When I arrive at my office, I notice there are several messages from my family. They don’t understand why I decided not to go back. Even Myka, my youngest sister, is asking what the fuck is wrong with me.

Just last week, we discussed our futures and what we should do after leaving town. Neither one of us wanted to stay longer than necessary.

Did she change her mind?

Well, it’s not my problem anymore. I have to let go of my family and find my own happiness. From this point forward, I’m not responsible for anyone but myself. This is what I’ve been working for my entire life, my freedom.

I turn off my phone and ask my assistant to hold any calls from my family. I need one day without having to deal with their demands.

ChapterNineteen

Siobhan

“Well, you look like it’s either laundry day or you’re trying to copy Daisy Duke, which one is it?” Anya says when she opens the door.

She looks at me from top to bottom.
