Page 32 of Uncovering Voodoo

“We have to find out who this person is,” Ghost said.

Before Ivy could respond, the conference room door flew open, and a very scared and pissed off Voodoo entered the room, with Bench following closely behind.

“Him,” Voodoo said, pointing at Carter. “Shoot him,” she instructed Bench.

Bench lifted his previously relaxed arm with the gun already posed to fire and drew up short when Ivy kicked his legs out from under him, and he landed hard on the floor.

Ghost assisted his wife with the giant, demanding that he stand down.

Carter took the confusion for an opportunity to pull Voodoo against him.

“Get your hands off me!” she demanded.

“Gwenie. Stop,” he pleaded, never dropping her hand. “It wasn’t me. It wasn’t me. Please, just stop running and listen to me.”

Voodoo looked around the room at those she considered her friends and family.

Then there was Bench—the only one who seemed to be in her corner—now lying on the floor with Ivy securing a zip tie.

It was too much. She’d had enough. She let her body go slack and would’ve hit the floor if her backstabbing husband hadn’t caught her first.

“I hate you all,” she whispered before passing out.

“Give her some space,” Carter demanded.

“Let me up,” Bench growled.

“Only after we disarm you, buddy,” Ghost responded as he patted Bench down for additional weapons. Each weapon he pulled off, only left another one to be discovered.

“How in the world do you sit down?” Ghost asked Bench after he hoped he’d gotten the last blade.

Bench didn’t answer; instead, he shot daggers at the group.

“Come on, Bench. Let’s get you up,” Ghost said and began to pull on Bench’s arm, who let him.

“How is she?” Bench asked Carter, who he’d not once taken his eyes off of.

“She’s coming to. Byte, can you get me some water and a wet towel?”

“Got it.”

“Come on, everyone, take a seat... you too, Bench,” Ivy instructed the group.

“Why is he here?” Bench asked the team after sitting down.

“Because he’s not the bad guy here,” Ivy said. “He’s been set up from the beginning.”

“So you do believe him over Voodoo. She was afraid of that.”

“We don’t believe him over Voodoo. We believe them both,” Ivy said.

“We believe the attempts to kill Voodoo were real. We also believe that both Voodoo and Carter were targeted,” Ghost stated.

“By whom?”

“We have some suspicions, but that’s all they are at this point.”
