“Tell me you didn’t do anything stupid in Chicago, like mess with the Irish? We’re on the brink of war as it is.” Rex stepped closer with his usual lethal stare.

What was he going to do? Make me return it to its rightful owner? I would love nothing more. “This has nothing to do with your war.” I switched my gaze to meet Caterina’s.

Here was a woman who was ready to fight for her family. The glint in her eyes was all strength and something feral—a basic instinct to protect her own. Even now, she stood next to Rex as if ready to jump in front of a bullet for him. What would make Caterina lose that desire and give up on life? What the hell happened to Red? Or who happened to her? The idea of anyone inflicting pain on her soft skin made me want to punch a wall. No fucking idea why.

“One of your victims?” Caterina’s playful tone told me she thought I had slept with the owner of the pendant.

No, I hadn’t slept with the woman from the airport. But Caterina’s intuition wasn’t that far off. Without meaning to, I had developed an obsession for the redhead with sad eyes and plump lips. I had vivid dreams of Red’s slim fingers gripping my suit coat and yanking it off my shoulders. The next image quickly had her naked and brushing her long curls over my cock. I’d had plenty of time to conjure several scenarios in my head.

“Not a victim yet.” I captured the pendant tightly in my grip. “I have to find her first.”

Chapter1

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas

Luce

December 23rd

“I’m sorry, what?” I stopped midway up the stairs to look at Marie, Santino’s housekeeper, or rather, our housekeeper. “What do you mean these aren’t allowed?”

“Christmas decorations are forbidden in this house. Anything holiday-ish really.” She wrenched the box of old Christmas ornaments from me.

“Since when?” The rattling of broken glass made me cringe. Those little nutcrackers looked like they had been through a lot. “Santino didn’t mention that when I asked him about it last week. Or the week before that.” I yanked the crumbling box back from her.

Or had it been last month?

In truth, since Santino and I got married three months ago, time hadn’t felt exactly linear—eat, work, mind-blowing sex was our daily routine. To say that I’d been disoriented the last few months would be an understatement.

I woke up this morning with the horrible realization that Christmas day was only two days away, and we didn’t have any garlands or festive wreaths in the penthouse. The first time I asked Santino about it must’ve been right after Thanksgiving. Gosh, even that dinner felt like it happened a long time ago. I blushed when an image of how that meal ended reeled through my mind. Santino had a way to make me forget about the outside world. But this was Christmas. My favorite holiday.

“Did he say you could decorate?” She raised her eyebrows in surprise.

“Well, he said, ‘we’ll see.’”

Damnit. Now that I thought about it, every time I brought it up, he responded with a ‘maybe’ and a round of sex. How did I not notice that before?

Oh right, the life-changing orgasms.

“Where is he?” I asked.

“Dining room.” She pointed downstairs. “He asked me to come get you. He’s been waiting.”
