"Every other year will be good." He chuckled.

"This feeling that you give me, when we make love, does everyone enjoy it so?" She asked innocently.

"I don't know."

"I have heard some women that came into the store where I worked say, they bore it, but they did not enjoy it. Is that possible? What I feel when you touch me, is so powerful. I cannot describe the splendor. I never heard my sister or Naomi moan as loudly as I do."

He touched her cheek, enjoying her innocence. "I don't think we'll ever have a problem enjoying each other's bodies. I like looking at you, making love with you, just thinking about you." He chuckled.

She smiled contentedly when he wrapped her in his arms and they went to sleep so easily.

Chapter Fifteen

Three mornings later, when Snow Bird went to wash up on the back porch, she found Rose with a knife in her back, naked on the porch. Her body was near frozen, it had to have happened last night.

Snow Bird backed up. She wanted to scream but nothing came out of her mouth.

She ran to Matt. "It's Rose, out there!" Her face drained of color, her hands shaking, a tear sliding down her cheek, Matt took her in his arms.

"Are you alight?"

She nodded. She stood away from the door, so Matt could check on Rose.

Ferg saw the fear on Snow Bird's face and moved toward Matt. "Something wrong?"

"Out on the porch…"

"Let's take a look."

They opened the porch door and stepped out, and there in a pool of blood was Rose, half frozen body, her eyes still open. It was so cold, the blood on the floor was frozen.

Ferg leaned over and checked for a heartbeat. There was none, she was dead, an obviously had been most of the night. He shook his head at Matt.

Matt went to get a blanket to wrap her in and Ferg looked at him with such a dark frown. "We know who did this,

don't we?"

"Yeah, we do. What are we going to do with her body?"

Ferg looked about, then nodded, "We'll bury her in the snow back here, after everyone has seen it for themselves. Then when the thaw comes, we'll bury her proper."

Matt nodded.

Ferg went inside and informed the men to come look, as witnesses that Rose had been murdered.

Most of the men went out on the porch, a few at a time and nodded.

"Who done this?" One man asked, his ire evident in the lines of his face.

Ferg was standing in the corner, "We know who done it. Just wanted you all to witnesses it before we move the body."

"She was a good lay, I'd have married her if she'd been white." The man said, a tear running silently down his cheek.

A couple of others nodded, obviously many had bedded Rose over a time and every man that did was angry to see her like that. She had been well liked by most of the men.

A silence prevailed as they stood over her.

Inside Tal and Banks were talking, and Snow Bird knew Tal was trying to talk Banks into running.
