Doolin shook Matt's and Coon's hand, "Good job, boys."
Coon smiled as he had Little Matt on his hip.
"Let's put a side of beef on and celebrate." Matt encouraged.
It was a day of celebrations.
Chapter Twenty-Two
In February of the next year, Callahan Younger was born. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes, and Matt and Snow Bird were on top the moon. Margaret had helped bring him into the world.
Margaret, Coon, and Snow Bird took care of the children while the men hunted and fished a lot, when they weren't tending to the cattle or cleaning the barn.
It was happy times for them all.
But as spring came everyone had the itch to travel and Matt and Snow Bird had decided to make the trip with them, she wanted to see her sister.
"We're going with you. We don’t know what lies ahead of us u there, and I'm not going to leave the two of you to go into that camp alone."
Matt started to tell him they'd be fine, but Snow Bird raised her hand. "I think it is a good idea."
Matt relented.
Putting Little Matt on a horse with Coon, and Callahan on a cradleboard, they began to long journey north.
"You seem a little skeptical of this trip, Snow Bird, is there a reason?"
Snow Bird nodded. "Too Tall, he won't be happy to see us. If he is still alive."
"Do you think he' is not alive?" Matt frowned.
"I have heard many talks of the yellow haired Custer and I know Too Tall. He would war with him, and likely die."
"Then your sister could be alone."
"Yes, I have thought of that. Her and Naomi too. But more than likely Naomi would have been taken to a fort, to be reunited with her white family, if the soldiers raided the camp."
"Would you want to bring your sister with us?" He asked.
"I am not sure she would come."
"Oh, why?"
"Because if they killed Too Tall, she would hate us all."
Matt thought about that, "I guess you are right."
"But I will see, and if he is dead, I will ask her."
He nodded. "She'd be welcome."
Snow Bird looked at Matt. "You do not know what that could cause."
"I don't understand."
"She would not be happy to be with us. She would cause much trouble. But she is my sister, and I will ask."
He nodded, "That's your decision, then."
