Lone Wolf and Deer Runner sneaked into the town, in the middle of the night and found the office. The doctor was asleep, and they woke him, holding a hand over his mouth.

"What are you doing here? What do you want?" The old doctor asked in a muffled voice.

"Vaccines for the small pox," Lone Wolf told him.

"How would you even know about such a thing?" The old doctor studied them as they let him loose. "You're an Indian."

"We've been told of it. We must have enough for fifty people or more." Lone Wolf told him.

"I gotta see how much I have, I doubt I have enough for what you are saying." he told them, as they followed him to the medicine room.

The old doctor shook with fear as he kept glancing at them. "Where did you come from?"

"It does not matter, all that matters is that we get the vaccine old man." Lone Wolf told him.

"Alright, alright. I'm getting some together. But I doubt I have that much. Because of that, I doubt the vaccine would do you little good."

"Then where will we find it?" Lone Wolf asked.

"I can get it, but I'll have to go out to one of the ranches. Ask if I can find cows with cow pox." The doctor told him.

"Then we will go too. But you cannot ask, you know what cow pox is?"

"Yes, of course I know."

"Then we will find the cows you need to get it."

"But it would take all night to get enough."

"We have the time, and so do you." Lone Wolf told him.

The doctor looked at them, "I'm not even dressed."

"Then get dressed," they told him.

As the old doctor put on his clothes, they practically carried him to their horse and he rode on back of Lone Wolf.

"Where do we go?" He asked the old doctor.

"Hardin Ranch, Bar H, just take the south road." The old doctor pointed.

They rode south for ten miles and came upon the ranch.

"Now," Lone Wolf came up to the doctor as they dismounted, "We must be very quiet, get what we need and leave. That way there will be no trouble."

"Why didn't you talk to the Indian agent about getting the vaccine for you? Why did you come to me?" The doctor protested.

"The agent could not get us this medicine. They would not give him medicine for small pox for Indian, you know this. Now we must be quiet. Let's get to work. You tell us what to do, and we will do it."

The old doctor saw the cows in the pasture and pointed to them. "Let's take a look over there."

They walked out to the pasture and the doctor found three cows that he could tell had a mild case of cowpox. He took his supplies and got the necessary vaccine from the cows. It would be enough, he told them.

"This only works on people that don't have the pox yet." He told them.

"That is fine. My people do not have it yet."

"I don't understand this. How could you know of this vaccine, few people do? Are you going to kill me?" He asked as they got back on their horses and rode back toward the town.
