"Yes, we must move on. We don't know where these soldiers are, or what Cochise has in mind."

"I agree." Deer Runner told him.

"I will marry Hannah when we return." Lone Wolf announced to his friend.

"It is good. Black Feather and I both agree, she is more Arapaho than white now. She is very brave too."

"Yes, she is." Lone Wolf smiled. "But I feared for her last night. I would have died before I let him touch her."

"Your father will be pleased."

"I think he will." Lone Wolf smiled.

"What will you do about her husband?"

Lone Wolf sighed, "I'm not sure. But perhaps he will meet his own fate soon."

Deer Runner nodded. "White laws do not apply to us."

"No, they don't. But she will face difficulties if whites come to our village and we must protect her from harm."

"I agree my brother. Our tribe, when they hear of her bravery, will protect her willingly."

Lone Wolf smiled, "Yes… I believe they will."

"She did not holler out once when they took her and tied her to the pole to freeze. She faced it bravely, without crying out. Her lips were blue. Her limbs numb."

"I know, I could not let the fire thaw her, as the pain of it would be excruciating."

"So, you warmed her with your body?"

Lone Wolf smiled, "I did."

"Luki will be mad."

"Luki is nothing to me." Lone Wolf exclaimed.

"Still, she might cause trouble."

"It will do no good for her. She will be shamed if she does."

Deer Runner nodded. "This war of the Apache is not good for them. But they do not see it. This Colonel Chivington is ruthless they say."

"It reminds me of the Great White War, when white brother fought white brother. It was not good, many died before they realized what was happening. Pride can be a man's downfall. That's why we must get home as quickly as possible."

"I agree. Why did they fight each other? They speak the same language, they live the same way, in houses, they educate themselves, why did they fight each other so?"

"It is said that it was because of the black slaves… "

"What about them?"

"The big white leader wanted them freed." Lone Wolf explained.

"I have met only one black slave. He could barely speak English. He worked in a cotton field in Texas he said, he'd escaped, but left his family there. He was too afraid to go back for them. What was he afraid of?"

"The black slaves, many are beaten, and struggle to survive. They are separated from their families, some of the women are raped by their masters. They are treated unfairly in many places. But they are free labor for the big plantation owners. The north people of this country wanted them freed, the south needed them to get their crops in."

"Why didn't they do the work themselves?"
