If only she had one of their horses though.

She looked around the camp, if maybe she could steal one…

But they had bunched the horses in one place and roped them in. They were a smart tribe. She would have to continue on foot.

Three days later she realized her folly. She was without food, and her water was nearly gone. She needed to find water.

The next day she found a waterfall, spilling from the top of the mountain to a beautiful creek. She threw her clothes away and bathed, enjoying the clean water, even though it was a bit chilly. It revived her some. She cleaned her feet and soaked them in the water.

Filling her skin with water, she trekked onward.

But a week of trekking around the mountain, and she was threadbare. She was hungry, and weak and so very tired.

That's when she felt the first movement of her baby and she shrieked, not knowing what was happening to her. She caught her belly and felt it again. "Oh, it is you little one. You are with me, aren't you? I am so glad I am not alone… "

She rubbed her belly softly and smiled. It was such a comforting moment.

Until she heard the sound of a cat.

She froze. "Oh please, not that!"

But about the time the cat decided to jump, a shot rang out and the cat fell dead from the tree it was perched on, and at her feet.

She froze, then turned slowly to see a Blackfoot man and woman.

"He almost had you." The man said, coming closer.

The woman followed.

"I am Sasha, I am Arapaho. I'm trying to get back to the Wind River Valley Reservation." She told them. "Thank you for killing that cat, for I had nothing but a small knife, he would have had me sure."

"Arapaho, huh?"

"Yes."

"What are you doing up here alone?" the man asked.

"Big Knife took me captive in the high mountains, and I escaped."

"Big Knife, I have heard of him. Isn't he the one trying to war with the blue coats?"

"Yes, he is!"

"Well, I am Wachooshi, and this is my wife, Little Kettle."

"I am pleased to meet you. Can you tell me if I'm headed south or not?"

"You are headed south west. If you want to come with us, we will take you down the mountain in a couple of days as we go to trade soon." Wachooshi told her.

"Oh, that would be wonderful." She said and smiled.

The woman smiled and they talked a while then she followed them to their camp.

"Where are you going to trade?" Sasha asked.

"Fort Hall."

"Good. I am ever so grateful."
