"I've found something," she said.

"Details?" Connor pressed, impatiently.

"There's someone who commented negatively on both Caroline’s posts and Shiree’s posts, and I see he's said nasty things about Tracy as well. And, from the sounds of things, he sounds like a suspicious character. I see here that in one post, Tracy threatened to call the cops on him if he carried on with the abuse. And he replied that she should shut up now, and that if she went any further, he’d make sure that she regretted it forever."

CHAPTER NINETEEN

Cami's eyes flickered between the various open windows on her laptop screen. This was critical work. She couldn't afford to miss a detail. This search could lead them straight to the killer, and she wanted to make sure that she had the right person and that he had attacked all three victims online.

She nodded decisively. There was no doubt about it. The comments were all linked to him. She hadn’t made a mistake.

"Who is he?" Connor asked impatiently.

"His name's Nick Walker."

Now, Cami had three different search windows open and was collating the results between all of them.

“I’m seeing a pattern here. He’s deliberately made nasty comments on their posts. Derogatory comments. Snide remarks. Here, I'll give you an example."

Cami read out the conversation.

"Tracy: Anyone know of a good garden service? I'm away for a week and between gardeners, and need my yard maintained when I'm back.

Nick: Why not do it yourself? Too lazy?

Tracy: I'm a busy, working woman! I'm away for work. What the hell do you do, just troll people all day?

Nick: I'm a retired Navy SEAL. So, don't mess with me. You might just regret it."

Glancing at Connor, Cami saw his eyebrows raise.

"Ex-Navy SEAL?" he asked.

"So he says." Cami shrugged. "This is the virtual world, remember. Anyone can be anything they choose."

She went into his profile on the site to check him out. And then, onto other social media that was linked to the same name.

His photo was threatening, she thought. A hard-faced man, with a tight-lipped expression, holding a machine gun. There were more pictures of guns and knives on his other social pages. Cami felt a chill as she saw the knives.

Maybe he was not pretending to be someone else. Maybe this was who he really was—an ex-military man who had now become a brutal, cold minded killer.

"We need to take that seriously when we go in to question him." Connor’s voice sounded hard.

"He had similar conversations with Caroline. Insulted her when she asked about someone coming in and fixing her stove. Said she should just buy a new one since she's a privileged housewife. She also lashed out at him and said she barely uses it because she's so busy at work, and that she has an actual job, unlike him, but that she'd like it in working order when she is at home."

"Almost seems like he was looking to draw them out," Connor said.

"Yes. It sounds like those insults were targeted to cause conflict. He's a nasty person, that's for sure, and he could also have been looking to get information on them. People often don’t think and can reveal personal information when they get angry. Caroline definitely did there."

"What about Shiree?"

"Yes. He attacked her too.”

A couple of weeks ago, Shiree had published a photo of a beautiful sea view, with the caption, "Well-earned vacation time." And Nick had responded, "How did you earn the money to go there? On your back?"

Not surprisingly, Shiree had retorted furiously that she was a career woman, and she deserved her vacation time in her own right. She'd most definitely been triggered by that comment.

Connor looked at the conversations.
