Then, without another word, he takes off across the driveway and storms into the house, the loud slam of the door echoing behind him.

“Shit,” I hiss, collapsing to the ground as the pain gets the better of me.

“Up you get, son.” Christian’s hand appears before me and I frown up at him.

“Shouldn’t you be kicking me while I’m down too?” I mutter, refusing his help.

“I’d rather hear the whole story first. But rest assured, if you have done this, I won’t be letting you off this easy.”

“Great, I’ll end up in some shitty juvie with Dale fucking Starling, won’t I?” I scoff.

“We’ll see. Juvie might be too good for the likes of Starling.”

“But not me,” I grunt as I get to my feet. “Good to know.”

“Get in your car, we’re leaving.”

I watch as he drops into my driver’s seat as if it’s his own car, but the second he closes the door, my eyes drift up to the house.

A figure in the hallway window makes my breath catch.

I desperately want it to be Liv. But disappointment floods me when I discover it’s Oak, still glaring at me as if my mere presence is ruining his life.

I knew him hating me was inevitable, but I’d planned to be long out of town before the truth was revealed. And I was going to be taking those photos and videos with me, not leaving them for the entire student body of All Hallows’.

Fury bubbles up inside me as I think about all those horny teenage boys jerking off over my girl.

My fucking girl.

The need to chase after her, to call for her, burns through me.

But I don’t.

It would be pointless right now. She won’t listen to me.

Hell, she might never listen to me again after this, but the least I can do is allow her to cool off and then try to have a rational conversation about it all. After I’ve figured out who the fuck did this to us, of course. Because I will work it out, and I will sell their soul to the devil for thinking they could cross us.

“Reese,” Christian barks, leaving me little choice but to limp around to the passenger side of my car, holding my aching ribs which jolt with each step.

A loud groan rips from my lips as I fall into the seat, but Christian doesn’t say anything. Instead he glances over at me with anger, and I swear pride in his eyes.

Yeah, he can play the big man all he wants, but deep down, he wants to do exactly what Oak did to me for hurting his daughter.

I get it. He should.

“Where are you taking me?” I ask as we head across town, the tension in the car too unbearable.

“The Manor,” he states coolly.

“Why?” I ask, confused as to why he’d want to take me to one of the most expensive hotels in town while I look like this.

“Because,” he sighs. “You need to cool off. All of you do. And this way, your mother won’t hurt me for not treating you right.”

“Ah, of course. It’s all about my mother and what she wants,” I spit.

“Reese, I—” He slams his lips shut, cutting off whatever he was about to say.

I might be curious as to what it was, but not enough to ask when he remains silent.
