“Don’t worry about it.”

“Who do you think sent the email?”

“Reese—” I start, but Abigail cuts me off.

“You don’t really believe it was Reese, do you?”

“It came from his email, Abi.”

“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean anything.” She shrugs. “Somebody could have gotten his login details or tampered with the system.”

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Of course, sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.”

I let out a small sigh. “You didn’t. I’m just fed up of dealing with… this.” I motion to the huddle of girls all staring in our direction.

“Ignore them. I do,” Abigail says, pulling her hair around her face.

I wonder if she knows she’s doing it. Hiding herself. Using her hair as a shield.

“You know, you don’t need to do that.”

“It’s a bad habit,” she says.

“You’re a good person, Abigail.”

“If only being good was enough…”

“Listen, would you like to get lunch together?” I ask, and she gives me a warm smile in return.

“I’d like that.”

“Great. I’ll see you later then?”

“I’ll be there.” She starts walking backward. “And Olivia?”

“Yeah?”

“For what it’s worth, I don’t think it was Reese.”

Her words stay with me as I head for my first class. But even if she’s right, even if it wasn’t Reese, he still planned on breaking my heart.

I was still a game to him.

How can I ever forgive that?

REESE

“Reese, open the door,” Elliot booms after this round of hammering on it ends.

I groan as I shift on the sofa.

The room spins and my stomach convulses, threatening to puke up the liquid diet I’ve lived on since Christian dropped me here.

He’s hiding me. That much is obvious.
