“And he hurt me.”

“If it’s any consolation, he looked just as miserable Saturday.”

“He did look pretty miserable, didn’t he?” A faint smile traces my mouth.

“Maybe you should hear him out.”

“You’re not going to let this go, are you?” I glower at her.

“No.”

“Well, you’re wasting your time.”

“Or you’re not being honest with yourself.”

“You know, I liked you when I got into your car this morning. But now, now I’m not so sure.”

“It’s not me you hate, Liv. It’s that you still care. Even when you think you shouldn’t.”

Shouldering the door, I climb out and inhale a sharp breath.

She’s right.

Abigail is right, and I don’t know what the hell to do with that.

Reese doesn’t deserve my forgiveness. He doesn’t deserve anything from me. But the thought of us being done, just like that, hurts so damn much.

“I can’t think about Reese right now,” I admit as she rounds the car to meet me.

“You’re right, let’s deal with our little problem, and then we can talk some more about him.” Abigail gives me a knowing smirk, and I find myself smiling back at her.

She’s not the girl everyone thinks she is. And something tells me this is the year she’ll truly find herself and her place in the world.

I’m glad I get to be here to see it.

“You have to meet my friend Charli soon. She will love you,” I say as we head toward the building.

“Charli. Why does that name sound familiar?”

“She used to go here, but she got expelled in year eleven.”

“I remember. There was a scandal with her mum.”

“That’s the one.”

“You really want me to meet her?”

“Of course. She’s my friend, you’re my friend…”

“Okay. I’d like that, I think.”

“Fair warning though, she’ll probably try to corrupt you the second she gets her hands on you.”

Abigail blushes.

“Don’t—”

A commotion inside the corridor catches my attention and Abigail smirks up at me. “Ready?”
