“Uh, yeah,” I say, rubbing at the back of my neck a little awkwardly. “I… uh… I need your help with something.”

She comes to a stop beside her car and turns to me, her eyes narrowing in suspicion.

“You need my help with— ohh… Right, well. Get in, I’m all ears.”

She shoots me a knowing look and I march around her car to get into the passenger seat so we can have this little chat in private.

“Well, that was an hour of my life I’ll never get back.” Tally sits beside Abi and unwraps her sandwich. When neither of us replies, she glances between us.

“What’s the matter with you two?”

“Liv won’t come to the match later.”

“I already told you, I’m—”

“Busy, yeah. You’re also a terrible liar.”

“I’ll come,” Tally says. “I’ve never really been to a rugby match. It could be fun.”

Hell.

It will be hell watching Reese get all sweaty and muddy.

All week, he’s given me space. Feels a lot like he’s avoiding me, if I’m honest. We shared a moment when we left Mr. Porter’s office the other day, but that was it.

Even Oakley has been quiet on the whole me and Reese scandal.

It’s weird.

I expected… well, I don’t know what I expected, but complete avoidance wasn’t it.

I guess it makes things easier, though. We can’t be together. Not unless Fiona and Judge Bancroft decide to free Abigail and Reese from their obligations.

Even if we can be together, can I ever forgive him?

All I know is that it hurts. It hurts that he betrayed me, and it hurts that we’ve barely spoken.

I didn’t plan on falling for him, but I did. Even though my head knows it’s probably for the best that things worked out this way, my heart won’t accept it.

Going to the game, being around him any more than I have to right now feels like the worst kind of torture.

“We should all go,” Tally announces. “We can watch the match and then go to my house and binge ourselves on fruit cider and pizza.”

“You want us to come to your house?” Abigail turns a pale shade of green.

“Yeah, well.” Tally shrugs like it’s no big deal. “Unless you don’t want to—”

“I’m in.” Abigail smiles. “Liv?” They both turn their attention on me. “Please, you have to come. It won’t be the same without you.”

“She’s right, you know. Besides, you won’t only be there to cheer on Reese.”

“Tally,” I warn.

“What?” She holds up her hands. “I’m not saying a word.”
