And right now, she’s entirely at my mercy.

Using my thumb, I press against her clit, then lean into her, taking her nipple in my mouth as I fuck her with my hand. It’s a promise that if I have the chance, there will be more. That I will give her everything her sweet little breath is begging for as soon as I’m able.

I know Kane has a plan, so I will be patient—but I won’t hold my breath forever.

I feel a pulse of wetness, and I hear her trembling breath, and I know she’s close. Shifting up, I brace my hand on the side of her head as I rub her clit in circles, and then I take her mouth in a kiss before pulling back.

‘Come.’

I don’t know if she reads the word from my lips, but she obeys anyway. She lets go with a silent cry, her back arching, head nearly off the ground as she gushes on my fingers. I fuck her through it, eventually holding still so she can come down and tighten back up around me. I lay kisses on her—soft, sweet things, a juxtaposition to who I am, but it’s worth it for her.

My pretty little Alice.

When she’s breathing evenly again, I pull back and catch her eye as I lick my palm clean. I was young when Kane brought me into his fold, so my experience with anyone outside of the misfits is limited, but she’s still the best pussy I’ve ever tasted.

I share it with her, and my heart thuds when I realize she doesn’t shy away as I dip my tongue into her mouth. She sucks her flavor from my lips, but when her hands start to drift toward my waistband, I stop her with a firm grip.

“You’re hard.”

I know, and I hate myself for doing this, but I don’t have a choice. I stopped counting the minutes, but we’re on the verge of being late, and pissing off Kane right now isn’t the best strategic move.

Shaking my head, I push myself to my feet, then extend my hand. She takes it, her expression wary, and for good reason. She doesn’t say a word, and she doesn’t protest when I pick my knife up and come at her again. Instead, she stands there stock-still as I cut the rest of the panties off her and shove them into my pocket.

“Perv.”

I laugh and shrug. She has to know that by now. Using the toe of my boot, I hook the leggings and kick them into the air, catching them and presenting them with a flourish.

She stares dubiously, then turns them right side out, never dropping my gaze. “Are we going somewhere?”

I nod. It’s all I can really say. I see her swallow thickly, and I feel somewhat gratified that she knows. Playtime is over, and serious shit is going down. And if she’s got any sense, she’ll know that not one of us is capable of saving her from whatever Kane has planned.

Chapter16

ALICE

Time’s up.That’s the look on Ari’s face, anyway. This was a goodbye fuck, I guess, which sends me into a small fury because he gave me no choice and only part of what I wanted. But I can tell from his expression and the way he rejected my advances that he will not be moved.

In this house, Kane is God, and I can tell all of this was on his orders.

It takes me a second to get my leggings back on, and by the time I’m following Ari back through the woods, my heart’s going a mile a minute. I start to feel dizzy when he bypasses the house, and as the little structure beyond the garden comes into view, I’m seconds away from passing out.

I don’t know that place, but I know it’s where that man who tried to hurt me died. I know it’s the place that Ari goes when he needs to hurt something—or someone. I know that unlike the basement, people don’t go in there and come out alive.

Ari notices that my steps have faltered, and he turns, offering me a look of pure and unrestrained pity as he curls his fingers around my wrist. I don’t know if anything about his expression is real, considering that he’s as close to a true psychopath as anyone I’ve ever met, but I like to think with the trembling way he kissed me and the burning heat in his eyes, he feels something for me. Enough to mourn me a little when I’m gone.

As the door comes closer, my legs feel heavier, and it’s only on sheer will alone that I manage to cross the threshold. The place is cavernous, but the sound is also muffled, which I assume is meant to block out screams. It smells like disinfectant, and it’s mostly empty except for a couple of tables, a rickety chair, a huge wardrobe propped against the far wall, and a standing toolbox next to it.

The floor is concrete, and it’s rusty near a drain, which tells me that’s where all the blood goes.

And mine will probably be joining it soon.

When the door slams behind me, my breathing starts to hitch. Ari’s face is now devoid of any emotion as he pulls me to the center of the room and sits me on a chair. It reminds me of those old-school ones—tan, metal, and if you move wrong, the hinges will pinch your leg. The chill seeps through my leggings as I sit, and I try to find anything in Ari’s face that tells me he’s going to show me the mercy he promised.

“You said it won’t hurt, right? That—that you’ll make it quick?”

I honestly can’t believe I even asked. He turns his gaze to me, and he doesn’t even try to answer. I wrap my arms tightly around my body, and I jolt when I hear a door at the far end of the room open and close.

The steps across the floor have power in them, and I don’t need to guess who it is. “Give us five minutes.”
