“No, you just saw me ’cause I was the only one there, and you were mad and needed a release. I get it. Shitty teenager, right?”

She has no idea. The slam of emotions that night when this girl I’ve teased and laughed with my entire life—my sister's best friend—shifted before me. Shifted into a beautiful young woman. She doesn’t realize how my love for her changed in that moment. A love I hadn’t realized I’d felt. I fell in love with her that night. Before we ever kissed.

“Bexley—”

Laughter and giggles interrupt us. Moans and yelps of desire follow.

“Someone’s getting lucky.”

Bexley clamps her hand over my mouth. “Shhh.” Her whisper kisses my ear. She points across the sandy beach with her free hand. “It’s Coco and Damon.”

“Preppy Damon Redstone?”I say through her fingers.

She nods.

I remember crashing the Redstone’s private beach parties when we were young. Laughter bursts out of me, and Bexley’s hands can’t control it. It echoes on the beach.

“Who the fuck is there?” Yup, that’s Damon’s voice. “This is private property! You’re trespassing!”

I’m ready to catch him in the act. My feet start toward him, but Bexley tugs at me to follow her to the small brush beside us.

“We should go say hi.”

“We should absolutely not,” she hisses, still pulling my arm deeper into the wooded area.

“Maybe you’re trespassing!” I disguise my voice when I shout.

“Oh my god, Johnny!” she shouts at me, but laughter pours out of her. She releases my hand and breaks into a run.

I chase behind her, dodging branches and hopping over stumps. I don’t see her stop, and I bounce into her back. “Shit, sorry.”

My arm automatically reaches around her front to keep her from falling. My hand slips under her thick sweater and grazes the soft material of her dress. Her breasts are snug above my arm. My jeans tighten. I swear my fingertips can feel her skin through the thin material.

Her laughter tickles my ear. “We almost got caught, you jerk.” She playfully slaps the arm I have fastened tightly around her.

“Did you hurt yourself?”

Her hands rest on my forearm, and her fingers curl around me. “I’m okay.” Her tone softens. “Are you okay?”

“I’m okay.”

She makes no attempt to move from my arms. I stand still in the pitch-black darkness. I’m torn between wanting to spin her around and kiss her and knowing damn well that isn’t what she wants.

Or is it?

She slowly turns to face me. Her eyes flutter up to mine. My fingers clutch the back of her dress. I’d love to rid her of her sweater and kiss down her throat.

Her fingers creep up my chest until she fists a handful of my shirt. “I’ve been thinking about kissing you since the shower.”

Her words shock me to my core. I’m not sure whether to laugh or dive past her lips.

“Really?” I take a large step and pin her against a tree trunk. My free hand rests on the bark above her head. “What are you going to do about it?”
