Flesh.Necrotic flesh. As in dead zombie flesh.

Um, eww! Just the thought made me want to hurl.

Focus, Cassie.“Everyone needs to stay alert. I’m done being blindsided by this witch.” I took the time to meet each pair of eyes at the table. They needed to know I was serious. No backing down this time.

“Agreed,” Damian said at last as the others nodded. “I don’t want to see you hurt again, pet.”

If he called me that one more time, he’d be the one that ended up hurt.

His warm chuckle echoed in my head. “Go ahead. I’d love for you to try to take me down.” He winked as I shook my head. “Don’t act like you don’t feel our connection.”

It took every ounce of willpower I owned not to respond. That was no exaggeration.

“Come on, angel. You can ride on the back of my Harley,” Ryder offered when he noticed my frustration. “I’ve wanted you on my hog with your arms wrapped around me for days.”

Twin scowls appeared on the vampire and werewolf’s faces. I didn’t really care what emotional connection they felt at this moment. If any, at all. All that mattered was taking that rogue witch down.

I needed their help.

But, hey, a pause was warranted because hello—a black Harley Davidson gave me intense vibes in all the right ways.Purrrr.

Ryder insisted I wore a helmet, laughing when I eagerly jumped on the seat behind him, scooting close as my arms encircled his waist.

“Take me on a wild ride.”

“You got it, my dark angel.”

Somehow, the vampire and the Lycan kept pace with us.

Fifteen minutes later, we pulled up to the wrought iron gates of Rolling Rock Cemetery. Candlelight illuminated the headstones and family crypts as they had for the last three days. The festival of Samhain was in full swing. Soon the graveyard would be full of partygoers. Right now, it was empty as the sun completely set, the last rays of brilliant color disappearing into the horizon.

I sensed the presence of Gabriel and Damian before I saw them. As close as we’d all gotten over the last few days, it was no surprise we were all in sync. Their auras danced around mine and latched on, the colors intermingling in a dazzling kaleidoscope.

Power rushed into my body and boosted my magic, giving me the equivalent of three shots of espresso and a Red Bull. Charged at a hundred and ten percent, ready to take on this nasty witch and move on, I was done being the prey.

Now, finally, I became the hunter.

Ryder tilted his head to the side, silently listening for trouble. That was when I noticed.

The cemetery was too quiet. How odd. No wind. No rustling leaves. No birds.Nothing.

“Careful, pet,” Damian cautioned.

If I wasn’t focused on our objective, I’d have blasted him with magic and knocked his ass out.

Gabriel grabbed my hand, and I squeezed once before I pulled away. His aura was the most unstable tonight, worried about how I could become injured. He didn’t have to tell me to know.

I had to focus.

Squaring my shoulders, I walked forward with purpose. There was no doubt in my mind the witch would be here. I was bait. Too valuable a prize not to claim.

The gate clanged shut behind the four of us as we approached the center of the graveyard. A light mist circled our feet and rose into the air, chilling my skin. If I wasn’t already looking toward the ground, I would have missed the first hand that sprang up from the earth. Moaning and snarls encompassed the still air, filling it with ominous sounds as graves opened in every direction. Clumps of dirt and grass flew into the air. Bodies pushed through the earth, seeking sustenance.

One by one, the undead filled the cemetery, pulling decomposed bodies to stand as clawing fingers ripped the grass free by the roots. A strange greenish aura hovered slightly above the horde as they began keening and lamenting, moaning inaudible words as they pitched and wobbled, shuffling forward.

Startled, I backed up into a hard chest. Damian’s arms surrounded me without hesitation. At that moment, I needed his touch and didn’t leave his embrace.

‘I’ve got you.’
