The stranger runs his mouth along the side of my face and down my neck and I want to vomit. Not only from his smell, but because I know what he plans to do, and I can’t relive this again.

His lips are at my ear and the touch burns. “Don’t be like that, sweetheart. I’ll make it good for you.”

Those are similar to the words Harvey said to me the night he took me against my will.

His hand runs down my body and I freeze. I should push him. I should fight back. I did against Maddox when he grabbed me, but why can’t I now? Why won’t my arms move?

Move, dammit. Defend yourself.

His hand reaches the button of my jeans and I whimper. Before I have a chance to beg him to stop again, his body is ripped from me and I cry out, gasping for air. My face is wet with tears I didn’t know were there.

“Back thefuckoff, man,” Camden roars in front of me, shoving the guy against a row of kegs. The man is the same one who gave me a look that creeped me out when I brought his table their drinks.

Another sob escapes me as Camden slams his fist into the drunken man’s face, causing him to stumble back.

“You.” Another blow. “Don’t.” Hit number three. “Fucking.” The guy isn’t even blocking the hits. “Touch her.” Camden isn’t stopping and I’m afraid he is going to do a lot of damage to this guy.

I curl into myself against the wall, the tears not stopping as I watch him drill his fist over and over into the man’s face, stomach, his ribs. Anywhere he can hit. The guy isn’t fighting back, not like he could in his drunken state.

“Ca-Camden,” I try to say over my cries, but my voice is low.

Arms circle around me and I jump back, screaming. “Shh, it’s okay. It’s just me, Blaire. I swear I won’t hurt you,” Maddox says with a soft voice. He takes in my face and the fear I’m sure is evident on it. “I need to get you away from this, okay?”

I look back at Camden and see Levi and Mateo pulling him off the now passed out guy. He’s fighting them, trying to continue what he started.

Looking over at Maddox, I nod. He puts his arms around me, keeping his body from touching mine. Emree is at the end of the hall next to a worried Garrett, and I run into her arms, sinking as I put my weight into her and let out another round of sobs.

“Get her to my car. It’s parked right out front,” Maddox says. The sound of keys being exchanged comes from somewhere beside me.

“You two head home. I’ll take care of this,” Garrett tells her.

Going through the bar is a blur as Emree ushers me toward the exit. I can’t seem to stop the flow of tears. When we make it outside, I take my first breath of fresh air, although it is not as fresh as I would have hoped for with the smoker’s area not too far away.

After clicking some buttons on the keys Maddox gave her, Emree leads us toward a very large black truck. As she opens the back door, I’m grateful Maddox’s car has a step to get in, unlike Camden’s.

Once inside the safety of his truck, I break away from Emree. There is worry all over her face as she takes me in. I’m sure I look like a mess with my tearstained face, red eyes, and since I didn’t use waterproof mascara today, I can imagine there are black smudges along my eyes.

“Blaire, sweetie, I need you to tell me what happened,” Emree whispers. “You’re really worrying me.”

Trying to control my cries, I take a deep breath in and let it out slowly. “H-he pinned m-me.” A sob comes out. “Emree,” I cry out, lunging forward and wrapping my arms around her shoulders. She cradles me in her arms, slightly rocking back and forth.

“Shh, it’s going to be okay. You’re here with me, not there.” Her words do little to soothe me because Iwasthere. Again.

It almost happened again.

CAMDEN

Isaw red. That motherfucker had Blaire pinned against the wall. He was touching her. The fear in her eyes tore at me and I could have killed the scumbag if it wasn’t for Levi and Mateo pulling me off him. Currently, the lowlife, whose name we learned from his friends is Mark, is in the corner of the hallway being examined by Garrett and one of his friends.

My knuckles are still bleeding after running them under water and I don’t even care about the split skin. I would go after Mark again if it wasn’t for the people around us.

Garrett gets up and heads my way. Maddox, Levi, and Mateo are sitting by me on a few kegs. “His friends aren’t going to call the police as long as Blaire agrees not to,” Garrett says, looking as pissed as I feel.

I’m on my feet. “Fuck that, let them call the police. He was assaulting her.” Saying the words out loud makes bile rise in my throat.

He drops his head. “I know, man. We both know what would have happened if you weren’t here, but that doesn’t mean shit. Police aren’t going to charge him for groping, but they sure as hell will arrest your ass for assault.”
