Camden curses and I can see he’s struggling between his loyalty to his friend and what he thinks is right.

“He tells me I’m the girl of his dreams and how much he likes me, but then goes out and hooks up with other women and can’t even take me out to dinner? It’s messed up when I think about it.”

I scoot closer and wrap my arms around her. “You’re worth more than that and if he can’t see it, then he can watch you walk away and find someone worthy. He’s out there, hon, and we’ll find him.”

“Yeah.” She leans her head against my shoulder. “I guess you’re right. But can you do me a favor and remind me of this in the morning before he comes here? I need that tough love speech you guys are good at.”

Camden and I laugh and promise to remind her that she deserves better in the morning. After scooping out some ice cream into a bowl for Camden and myself and Emree showers and changes out of her work clothes, we settle in on the couch and start the first season of Emree’s and my favorite show, to which Camden groans because he thinks it’s cheesy. I snuggle up to him and can’t help but think of how grateful I am to have a guy who loves me, and I don’t have to worry about him wanting other women.

CAMDEN

Halloween is quickly approaching, and my roommates and I have somehow gotten roped into hosting a party at our house. The holiday is on a Saturday this year, so everyone is pumped there is no game or classes the day after. Maddox decides to make it a mandatory costume party and currently we’re all in Spirit Halloween, adding random decorations to the cart. Mateo picked out a spider he thinks will be funny to put at the front door because it has a motion sensor and jumps out when you walk in front of it.

The costume section is limited, but Levi finds an Elvis Presley suit while Mateo decided on a cop uniform. He said he plans to get laid that night and women love a man in uniform. Blaire told me she has to work but will be coming by when she gets off, and Emree is making them matching costumes but won’t tell me what it is yet. Whatever she wears, I hope it’s sexy and easy to get her out of.

Conrad grabs a dinosaur costume and smiles. “How fucking awesome is this?”

I laugh. “Dude, if you wear that, you’re going to pass out before the night ends.” Even though it’s October, Florida has no fall and it’s still in the eighties here.

He puts the costume back. “Well, what are you going to wear? The options here suck.”

A bag catches the corner of my eye and I smile. “I know exactly what I’ll wear.” Blaire has made comments when she sees me in my glasses about how I look like Superman, and I can’t think of a better costume.

Grabbing the bagged leotard, I make sure it’s my size and toss it into the cart. “I’ll wear my black trousers and white dress shirt over it and leave the middle buttons open. A little Clark Kent and Superman combo.”

“Ah come on, man, that’s too good of a costume,” Conrad groans. “Find something for me. I can’t think of shit.”

Looking through the costumes, I try to find one that would work out. After pulling two out, Conrad decides on the gladiator one, saying he wants his muscles on display.

“Do you know what the girls are wearing?” I ask. The morning after the shit that went down with Emree and Conrad, he showed up at her apartment, like she said he would, and told her how sorry he was and how messed up he is, begging her to give him another chance. After an hour of yelling and crying, all while Blaire and I hid in her bedroom, Conrad promised to be better and take her on a real date. Since then, they have been inseparable, which shocks me because Conrad and monogamy have never mixed.

“No, Em is keeping it a secret. She said it’s sexy as hell, which makes me want to know more and she knows that is torturing me.”

Before I can respond, Maddox comes over. “You guys think if I put a mistletoe on my belt, girls will offer blow jobs?”

“Dude, it’s not Christmas.”

“So?” Maddox responds. “Who says mistletoes are strictly for Christmas? Maybe I’ll start a new trend of Halloween mistletoe that has a happy ending.” He tosses the fake plant into the cart and walks away toward the masks.

“Where did he even find that?” Conrad asks. “We’re in a Halloween store.”

“Nothing stops Maddox when it comes to ideas of how to get laid.”

Our cart is filled with a variety of decorations and costumes. Levi decided on a lumberjack outfit rather than the Elvis Presley, and the guy fits the part perfectly, while Maddox found a fireman costume and said he is going to ask ladies to hold his hose. Really, he should come with a warning label.

We check out and of course Conrad insists on paying, saying that we can pay him back later. He does this almost every time we have a party. I’m positive when we make an alcohol run, he will be sure to pay for that too since out of the five of us, he and Mateo are the only ones who are twenty-one. At least for the next few months.

Back at the house, we begin setting up decorations. Since we live in a neighborhood with a few kids, we decided to get some candy to set up on the porch for anyone who comes by. When the house is halfway set up, Blaire and Emree show up. The moment I see my girl’s car pull in, I’m off the chair and tell Levi I’ll be back to help him finish putting the fake spiderwebs along the wall.

She smiles at me as she opens the door and I pick her up in a crushing hug. “What’re you doing here, baby?”

She laughs as she tries to wiggle out of my hold, but it only makes me pull her tighter to me. “Emree texted Conrad to see if you guys needed help.” Deciding to stop fighting me, she places both her hands on the sides of my face and kisses me. “You can let me down now.”

Sliding my hands down, I grab onto her beautiful ass. “Not until you give me a proper kiss.”

She rolls her eyes. “That was a perfectly fine kiss, Camden.”
