“She still hasn’t called Em either.” He takes the seat on the other end of the couch. “She’s getting more worried. Last night, she kept fidgeting in bed until she finally got up and went to her living room and started randomly cleaning it.”

“Ugh.” I run my hands through my hair, frustrated that no one has heard from my girl. “I can’t fucking stand this.”

Maddox starts to say something, but the ringing of my phone cuts him off. I grab it without even looking at the caller ID. “Hello? Blaire, baby, is it you?”

“Um, no,” a familiar voice says. “Do you not check who calls before picking up? That’s weird.”

“Emree, unless you called to tell me you heard from Blaire, I’m hanging up on you.”

“Funny you should mention that…”

I sit up straight and move to the edge of the cushion. “Don’t mess with me right now or your boyfriend is going to struggle to have kids in the future.”

“Touch that beautiful package and die, Collins. I mean it,” she threatens. “And back to my best friend, yes, she did call. She apologized many times for not turning her phone back on and worrying me, but she said she had something she needed to take care of and that it was too much to think of everything that happened with you and that bitch.”

“Take care of? What does that mean? And where is she?”

Two sets of eyes are focused on me, and Conrad tries to lean closer to hear what Emree is saying. I decide to put it on speaker for them. “We didn’t go into the details. She said she would talk to me when she gets home and that it was an emotional three days, but she feels better after her time away.” She pauses. “And currently she is on a plane heading here.”

I’m out of my seat. “Shit, Em, start with that. You had me worried she was never coming back or something. When did her flight leave? When does she get in?”

“It left about an hour ago and should arrive by six this evening.”

One and a half hours. I can be patient enough to wait that long. “Okay, do you know what she’s flying? I’ll pick her up from the airport.” I’m already heading toward the front door, where we keep our keys hanging against the wall.

“Not so fast, buddy. I don’t think that’s the best idea.”

I freeze, waiting for her to continue.

“She is hurt, Camden. Seeing you the moment she gets off the plane from wherever she came from after an emotional three days is not going to help your case. Her car is already at the airport. Let her come home and get situated. I’ll text you when she is here and when I think it is a good time to show up.”

I don’t know what to say. Part of me wants to argue with her that Blaire needs me, but another part knows she’s right.

“I think you’ve left our boy at a loss for words, blondie. We’ll make sure he stays put and wait for your text. Give our girl a hug from all of us,” Maddox says after he grabs the phone from my hand.

Emree says goodbye to us all before hanging up.

Heading back to the living room, I toss my keys on the coffee table and sit back in the same spot I have been occupying for the last hour. “I’m sick of this shit. I just need to talk to her.”

“We know, man,” Conrad says. “But you gotta look at this from her view. Imagine if you walked in on a guy getting out of bed with Blaire half naked. A guy you know has been trying to sleep with her for a while now, and is known as the college slut. You wouldn’t listen to logic so quickly either and it would take you a while to even calm down enough to hear what she would have to say. Let her get home and talk to Em first. I already made sure that Emree knows not to say anything about what’s been going on the last three days. It needs to come from you.”

“Fine,” I grumble. “I’ll fucking wait. Again.”

* * *

By eight,I’m ready to bust through our door and the four roommates of mine who have decided to act as babysitters to make sure I don’t go over before Emree gives the okay. She texted me when Blaire got to their apartment, but that was at six-thirty, and I haven’t heard from her since.

Maddox put on the stupid show from Netflix and while it usually holds my attention, I can’t stop staring at the clock. The minutes have seemed to go by slower as I sit here and wait. My patience is growing thin.

“You’re going to get an ulcer or something, man. You need to calm down,” Levi says from the single seat beside the couch Maddox and I are on.

“Easier said than done,” I mumble, still not looking away from the clock.

A ringing comes from the other side of the room. Conrad pulls his phone out of his pocket and looks at the ID, then up at me, giving me a small nod. “Hey, babe,” he answers. Emree says something on the other end of the line and I’m silently cursing him for not putting it on speaker. “Okay, I’ll tell him. Bye.”

I’m off my feet with my keys in hand the moment he hangs up. “Don’t care what she said, I’m going over.”

He laughs. “You’ll be happy because that’s exactly what she said. Blaire and her had a long talk about the last three days. She intentionally avoided the topic of you and Blaire did not bring it up. Em said she seems in a good place.”
