Cole cleared his throat, loosening his grip on her hand and palming his dick. “Tonight. But first you need to eat. Keep your strength up.” The lift dinged, the doors sliding open to a waiting audience. Cole picked up her bag and motioned for Ava to exit first, his hand on the small of her back as they walked out.

“How did you get the afternoon off work?” she asked as they meandered hand in hand along the busy street. “I thought you were super busy.”

He shrugged. “Eh, busy enough, but that’s why I worked back the last couple of days and started early this morning. I wanted to make sure I could pick you up. I was hoping to go home first and get changed but traffic was a shithouse, and I didn’t want to be too late.” He led her to one of her favourite hole-in-the-wall Korean takeaways and collected an order waiting for them. “Come on,” he instructed, pointing out his white ute, the aluminium tray filled with oversized toolboxes, ladders, and rolled-up extension leads.

Cole seemed to know exactly where he was going as he drove through the city streets toward the Harbour. He’d clearly put a bit of thought into their plans, and when he backed up into a street, illegally parking in a no stopping zone, Ava smiled. She knew this spot. It wasn’t the closest vantage point, but the prettiest. The view of the bridge, Luna Park, and all the boats travelling along the busy waters was unparalleled on this side of the Harbour.

She stayed put as Cole walked around the ute, opening her door and taking their lunch from her hands. Sitting on the tailgate, overlooking the most spectacular view, he cracked open the lids and fed her kimchi and bulgogi. They sipped steaming samgyetang soup from takeaway cups, and Ava couldn’t help her gushy smile and the way she leaned into his touch. Korean food was some of her favourite and the takeaway he'd chosen was famous for their chicken and ginseng soup as well as the meat and vegetable dishes he’d chosen.

“You and Bryce have spoilt me rotten today,” she gushed as Cole chuckled and nudged her with his shoulder.

“It’s our job.”

“He made me a rose.” Cole raised an eyebrow in question and her cheeks heated. “An origami rose. It’s beautiful.”

“He was practicing when I called him last night. Said he had one that was perfect but wanted to try one more in case he could make it better. He sent me a photo—he has a whole vase of them at his place.”

“He’s too sweet.”

Cole nodded and lifted the nearest toolbox lid, plucking out a square brown cardboard box. “It’s only just dry so I haven’t had time to wrap it properly.” Handing it to her, Ava furrowed her brow. Cole had made her something too? She peered inside and her breath caught. Rich, dark-toned timber gleamed at her. The impeccably smooth egg, its curves perfect, rested on a piece of folded newspaper.

“You made this?” Her voice was quiet, filled with awe.

“I did. Turned it on my lathe a few days ago and I’ve been sanding, painting, and staining it since. It opens too. Look inside.”

Gingerly, she lifted it out, the ovoid filling her joined palms. She marvelled at the precise line between the base and its lid. Balancing it on one hand, Ava lifted the top half and gasped.

“Oh my god,” she whispered. Staring back at her was a miniature ocean in the hollowed-out interior. Waves crashed on the beach; the timber stained a much lighter sand colour in that spot. Whitewash mingled with the azure waves and indigo blue depths; the whole painting shiny as if it was wet.

“You and Bryce inspired me to play around with my lathe again. I haven’t used it since I was an apprentice, but then Bryce told me he was making you a gift and I saw this block of timber. I wanted to make something for you.”

She touched the line of the waves and shook her head, dumbstruck at how beautifully it was finished.

“I made the waves out of resin.”

“Cole… this is… I’m lost for words.”

He lifted the egg from her hands, placing it gently back in its box before cupping her face. He kissed her long and slow, making love to her mouth and scrambling her brain just like Bryce had done earlier. They sat like that, slowly making out until the afternoon sun shifted, its rays burning Ava’s skin.

“Let’s get out of this sun,” Cole suggested. “Want to show me your townhouse project?”

She grinned, happiness suffusing her veins. “Let’s go.”

Ava walked into the office on Monday morning, gingerly sitting on her chair. She was sore from the marathon sex she’d had over the weekend, but she wouldn’t have changed it for the world. Bryce and Cole were insatiable, taking her higher than any lover had ever gone before. They’d tried every position and combined their mouths, fingers, and cocks with all her toys, giving her orgasm after orgasm.

Ava smiled, still riding the high from her secret weekend when the knock on her door came. John stood there, his complexion pallid. “Are you okay?” she asked, concern etched into her voice.

“Not really. All-staff meeting is starting in a couple of minutes. Make sure you’re logged in.”

Ava opened her mouth ready to ask another question, but he disappeared from her office. Poking her head out the door, she saw the stunned faces of her colleagues and the whispered conversations between them.

“What’s going on?” Ava murmured to Andrea, her closest neighbour.

“No idea. But an all-staff meeting? Since when do they happen?”

“It can’t be good.” Ava’s gut in knots, she shut the door, and took a calming breath. Surely it was nothing bad.
