Pete!

The housekeeper must have let him inside, and he went insane searching for me. I can’t believe I messed up.

“Fuck!”

Titan curses and jumps up. I swear guilt frowns his face rather than anger. Indifferent to the fact I’m half naked and he’s tenting his pants, he strides to the door. Uncertain who besides my dog is on the other side, I scramble up too and yank on my underwear and shorts. I don’t want to be embarrassed. Well, any more than I already am.

Pete wriggles through the smallest opening he can fit after Titan turns the knob and races to me so joyous, he knocks me down. After all we’ve been through it breaks me that he thinks I would ever abandon him. “I’m so sorry. I swear I would never leave you.”

Titan pats him on the back while I hug him. “My bad, buddy. We didn’t mean to leave you out, but you didn’t want to see what I did to her.”

I giggle against Pete’s short fur. Titan’s right.

His hand moves to me, and he slides a finger under my chin and tips my face up. “I have to work but I meant what I said about tomorrow. I’m taking you out. At eight o’clock you’re all mine.”

As always, he doesn’t wait for an answer. He thinks his word is law, which for everyone else I guess it normally is. I’m going crazy too because this time I’m not going to fight him. I’m going to trust him.

Addie

It’s stupid to be nervous.

It’s just Titan.

It’s just me.

It’s just everything I’ve always wanted.

With shaking hands, I smooth down the green silk of the most luxurious dress I’ve ever worn. I really do feel like Cinderella going to her first ball. Regardless of what we do, I know this will be the best night of my entire life after the best day of my entire life.

Chelsea really went all out to celebrate with breakfast in bed—French toast with pink sprinkles and candles—followed by pampering in her suite that really did mimic what I would imagine from a spa in an upscale resort.

We were scrubbed, waxed, and massaged then given mani’s and pedi’s. Too many firsts to count. Too many fancy procedures to understand. Too many glasses of champagne to sip. Both of us were tipsy while the professional stylist did my hair and makeup for my date.

Now I’m sober, alone, and excited, waiting in the foyer at eight just like Titan requested.

My heart pounds in my chest when the front door slowly opens. He’s here!

It’s not him.

The smile so big on my face it hurts fades away when one of his guards steps into the foyer. I know I look like an idiot so eager for his boss’s arrival.

He puts his hands palm up as if he’s already on the defense.

“I’m sorry Mr. Gallo can’t make it. He said he’ll catch up with you later. He’s going—”

“It’s fine.”

Actually, it isn’t fine at all. Too painful to hear the excuses for him standing me up, I can’t listen anymore. Fire flames through my body, and my pulse pounds in my ears. I can’t believe it.

With his forehead dipping down to his eyes, the man watches me. I guess he expects some kind of hysterical meltdown.

Fuck that.

Fuck him.

FuckTitan.

I will give them nothing. Neither of them will ever know how devastated I am. How bad he hurt me. How broken he’s left me.
