"What?" I call out, the agitation clear in my voice.

Lisa, one of the paralegals from the courthouse, is at my door. I have my own private office, so I don't have to deal with people most of the time, but every so often people find their way over here.

"Sorry to bother you, but I wanted to let you know that your case with a Mr. Rhett Dyer has been moved up. It'll be at one pm instead of three pm. " She tells me, and I quickly shoot a glance at the clock. One? That's in less than two hours. I thought I'd have. A few more hours to get my mind right. It's not like I didn't already know the judge would uphold the bail promise, but I didn't want to walk into court flustered, not when I had to work with a snake like Marcella.

A sexy, intense, utterly mouth warming snake.

"What about my Client?"

"He's already been told and is at the courthouse waiting."

"Fine, thank you." I say, doing my best not to sound too dismissive. I'm never this stressed out before a case. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I couldn't get Marcella out of my mind all night long. Ever since that night she came over, I've been thinking about her in various different ways. None of which are because she's in the courtroom with me.

The paralegal leaves and I make myself busy getting whatever I need for the day. My cases are already packed and besides Dyers I have nothing else on my plate for the day. Hoepfullyonce I get through with today, I can go home and finally get some relaxation. Hell, instead of going home, I may even get over to the gym and spar a couple of rounds with someone. That'll make me feel better, for sure. After I make sure.

After I power down my workstation and grab my jacket, I walk out of my office and to my car.

Usually, the street I work on is pretty quiet, but standing on the opposite side of the street is a man just leaning up against the side wall of a store. He's not smoking, not talking on his phone, not doing anything but staring at me.

The hairs stand on end at the back of my neck and I realize that he's not taken his eyes off me since I walked out of the office. I wait by my car for a second, just to make sure he doesn't try to run up behind me. After the other assholes tried to jump me in the parking lot a few days ago, I’ve really been on my guard. I don’t know what the hell is going on but I’m to going to be caught unaware.

I’m ready to fight if need be, but I'm not going to engage him unless he engages me. I don't know who he is, but in my line of work, it's not unheard of for people to send their goons to intimidate me. It’s just not usually so out in the open.

Problem is, with Dyer's case being the only one I'm working on right now, It doesn't make sense that he'd send a goon for me. No, this man must be here from Marcella's office.

I shake my head and ignore the man across the street. If they think a little stalking is going to be enough to get me to drop the case, they fucked with the wrong man.

CHAPTER EIGHT

MARCELLA

Your Honor, I strongly urge you to uphold my client's bail terms. Rhett has been a model citizen since he was released from prison, and I can promise you he will not flee if given the chance." Kai stands next to Rhett as he addresses Judge Suffolk.

This judge is usually a hard ass, and honestly, I didn't even expect him to even entertain Kai's request for bail, but we've been here for at least half an hour trying to get him to side with either one of us.

The judge leans forward, his severely wrinkled face pinched as he looks down at the papers in front of him, "Mr. Yang, I'm well aware of your client's record. And while I'm inclined to believe that he has reformed, it doesn't stand to erase the fact that there is still a substantial amount of money missing with which he could have access to. The risk of him fleeing is high."

All morning I've been trying to figure out just what part Rhett had to play in this robbery, and the more I think about it the harder it's becoming for me to see a clear connection. My skin crawls as I contemplate sending an innocent man to prison to wait for a trail he shouldn't be on, but on the flip side, I'm not just going to give up.

"Your Honor, if I may." I clear my throat, cutting Kai off.

"Go on, Counselor."

"The prosecution has evidence linking Rhett to the robbery, but seeing as he has been cooperative up to this point, we would be willing to go along with his request for bail as long as he forfeits his passport and wears a tracking monitor."

"What?" Micha says from where he's sitting beside me. I'd not let him in on this part of the plan. He didn't really ask what my tactics would be, and I'm glad he didn't, I'm not completely sure that I can trust him right now.

Judge Suffolk, leans back and looks between me and Kai. "That seems like a fair compromise. What say you Counselor." He addresses his question to Kai.

Kai turns briefly to Rhett, and they speak for a second before he turns back front, nodding, "Yes, we will accept that stipulation."

"Wonderful, I will keep Rhett Dyer bail at the amount of fifty thousand dollars. You are to surrender your passport and have no contact with the victims or any employees of the establishment. A trial date will be set in the near future, once you are fitted with your device you will be free to go."

"Thank you, your honor." Both Kai and I say at the same time.

"What the hell just happened?" Micha hisses at me.

"Nothing out of the ordinary." I reply as I start to put my briefs into my case.
