Page 47 of Finding Reese

“How about you both bring it on tomorrow. You know, after we finish cleaning up this place. Rhett, don’t make me call Christina and tell her you’re not helping,” I threaten, raising an eyebrow.

“Oh man, no fun. Bro, your woman is mean.” Rhett goes back to grabbing the chairs, the little sibling squabble already forgotten.

“Shut up, so we can get this done already. I can’t get no loving until it’s done, you’re wasting my time.” Reese grabs hold of three chairs and quickly gets them put away. Nothing like a bit of reward sex to get him extra motivated.

The exhibition fights were a huge success, but now that it’s over, I feel like I was one of the people in the ring. I’m dog-tired.

Once the main area is cleaned up and Reese sends his brother on his way home, he and I go into my small office. We all but collapse onto my small couch.

“I’m so tired,” I say as I let my head fall onto his shoulder.

“You should be, I saw you floating around like a social butterfly out there tonight. You did really good, babe.” He kisses my forehead, and a fresh wave of love washes over me.

“Me? You’re the one who was in the ring.” I laugh.

“Yeah, that was fun. I was missing a little bit of the competition.” He shrugs, and I rub my hand over his bicep.

I turn in my seat, so I’m facing him. Fluffing my hair, I put on my best reporter voice, grab the stapler off my desk and press it to my face like it’s a microphone.

“So, Sandman, you had a spectacular win today. Truly a fight that’ll be talked about for years to come.”

He sees my impersonation and throws his head back with laughter.

I continue just to get him to keep laughing. “You were unstoppable. A god among men.” I lay it on thick. “Now that you’ve got that huge win under your belt, what’s next for the champ? All the adoring fans are dying to know.”

I push the fake microphone toward him to see what ridiculous response he’s going to come up with.

“What’s next for me? My biggest challenge yet.”

I giggle and press on, “Yeah? And what’s that?”

“Trying to get my girl to marry me.”

My laughter chokes in my throat and my mouth snaps shut. What did he just say?

He reaches into his pocket and gets down on his knee while opening up a small, emerald green velvet box. The second he opens the top, the stapler falls out of my hand and clatters to the floor.

“I need you to breathe for me, babe.” He smirks that sexy grin at me, and I suck in a breath.

“Reese . . . what . . .”

“Haven, when I came back home to stay, I was in probably one of the darkest times of my life. I didn’t know what I was going to do about my career, hell, I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life. I was searching for a way to make sense of things, and just when I needed it the most, I found you. You bring so much happiness and hope, and all I want is to make sure I give that to you too. Forever. I love you more than anything. Will you marry me, Haven?”

My eyes travel down to the simple yet somewhat flashy large solitaire engagement ring in the plush box, and I’m absolutely riddled with bliss. He wants to be mine forever.

“I know how you feel about all the media and the—”

“Yes! I’ll marry you, Reese. Yes, yes, yes!” I throw myself into his arms and the ring drops out of his hand.

“Babe! I think you need the ring.” He laughs as he crushes me to his chest.

“No, I don’t need anything but you, Reese. I love you . . . so much.” I lean up to kiss him, and in the back of my mind, I wonder why it took me so long to find this man.
