I cease rifling through the suitcases for my nighttime skincare kit. I do not know, nor do I care what that suite costs. I'm more interested in that other word. "Wife?"

"Ah shit, I misspoke. Girlfriend. I got excited thinking about Vegas and eloping and ..." Beau trails off, distracted by me holding out my phone to him.

"Ask Micah," I breathe, blinking up at him.

"What?"

"Earlier, you asked what I thought of 'speeding up the stepdad' thing. Then you said we should get married. Let's do this right instead of stepping around it. I don't need my dad's blessing, but I do need Micah's. Call him and ask him for my hand in marriage. Then we can go ring shopping, but nothing too expensive, please."

Beau's face relaxes. He takes my phone in his hand, then tosses it on the bed. "Already done."

My eyes widen as Beau drops to one knee.

"You spoke to him already?"

"He said if we don't come back from Vegas married, he'll drive us to the courthouse himself," Beau says.

I blurt out a watery laugh. "With his learner's permit."

"I like my idea better," he replies, his eyes darkening in that way that makes me shiver. He wraps my hand in both of his. "Will you marry me?"

After everything I've been through, I didn't think this moment would ever come. Nor did I think that I'd cry tears if it ever did.

He's waiting for me to answer, but I can only manage a nod. Finally, I take a breath. "Yes."

A strange look comes over his face, then. "Ah, crap. I forgot one thing." I watch, curious, as Beau digs out a tiny velvet box from his pants pocket.

My hand goes to my mouth, and my words are muffled as I speak. "What did you do?"

He holds open the box, and I'm fully prepared for something showy and too expensive. But inside is a simple gold band set with a small oval diamond and an aquamarine halo.

"And before you ask how much it costs or whether the stones are responsibly sourced," Beau says, eyebrows raised, "It's vintage. Micah helped me pick it out."

My hand trembles as he slips the ring on my finger. I sniffle and dab my face on my nightshirt. "You little shits planned everything," I say, smiling.

Beau laughs, then catches me as I fall into him.

He sweetly carries me, princess style, to the bed and then nestles himself between my legs. I relax into the feel of this man on top of me.

He feels so good.

"Babe, we're on top of all our clothes," I giggle.

He grunts, kicking aside the suitcase and shoving most of the clothes off the bed.

"That's the best we can do; I'm not letting you up to tidy things," he says, raining kisses against my throat.

He's right. This is Vegas, and we're getting married. For once, we can throw the budget out the window and buy more clothes.

Beau makes everything feel effortless.

Muttering about too many layers between us, he pulls away from me, stripping me of my underwear and tossing the Hello Kitty nightie to the floor.

While he moves away from me to strip down, I pretend to try to stand up and tidy our clothes.

"Woman, I swear," Beau growls, rapidly shucking his clothes and, once naked, pinning me under him.

I laugh. "You should have made sure we were both naked before carrying me to bed."
